Traxxas XL-5 ESC any good for crawling?

The XL-5 won't run a brushless, burshed only. It would work for say a trail truck, where drag brake isn't as essential. Plus the newer ones are waterproof, keep an eye out for the ones with LVD for Lipo use.

The ones with LVC are only rated for 2S usage or less and as stated above there is no drag brakes to speak of. IMO - not the first esc I would go for but I have run worse.

The XL-5 will have the same double-tap reverse delay my AE-1 ESC had. VERY irritating for crawling. It'll work, just a real pain to drive, that's all.

I've been using an XL-5 on my Wheely King/ Crawler King for snow bashing. It does the job since it's waterproof (and they're super cheap). The 1A BEC is just barely adequate, but I'm not using a mega torque servo either.

I was given one to use as a spare and wasn't really impressed with it, like being limited to 2s. there are alot of better choices out there.

Noooooooooooooooooooo. No drag brake, no go. I had my brothers in my scx10 once, it was great for speed runs, but it took up alot of battery life, and it was crap for crawling. That's why traxxas only puts that esc in their 2wd vehicles.
