Traxxas summit esc and battery question

I was wondering the same thing. I've asked on the traxxas forum and everyone says it runs off of 4s but I know thats not right the batteries are wired in parralel not series.

If u want more runtime why not just get larger mah lipos? Match "c" rating and mah is a must

If it is the stock esc then the voltage should not be more than 16.8 and this is the voltage on 4s on 5c you have more the 16.8 volt and this is going be a problem i think, but you can prove me wrong.

I don't think the OP is asking about running 5S at all. I think they were saying they want to run 2x3S lipos in parallel - i.e. the voltage would remain 3S (11.1) but you would get longer run time.

If it will run 4S (2x2S) then it should run 3S in parallel.

But like someone already said, why not get higher mah 2S lipos :)

Ok, yes (2) 3s in parallel is 11.1 then times the battery mah by 2 so u run 3s with double the mah. Post back on how well it does on 3s

It should work with 3c not so much umf power and speed compared with 4c buy 2x2c and with a lot of mah for longer run times

Yes the truck should run on 3 cells I would prefere 4 cells there is more power compared with 4 cells than with 3c. you can get batteries at traxxas that has 2 cells and 7600 mah. you can get battaries at hobbyking at a much better price than traxxas's.

The original EVX2 in the 1:10 Summit does not like more than 2S on the BEC side and more than 4S overall. Been there, done that. Don't try yourself.
Also, why settle for 3S? You'll need 2S and 1S Batteries to accommodate this (with same capacity and C-Rates), and the Motor is prepared for 4S.
Those special Batteries and the need to change the Motor make this a pricey experiment.

Thanks for the advice all, heres the deal.i tried running the evx2 on a single 3s. I ran it for around 15 minutes low and high gear then tested temps. The battery and motor were cool, the esc heat sinks were warm not hot. As of right now i am running the 7cell 8.4 v packs in parallel. It works well enough for me with the stock packs so i'm going to stick with them for now. 3 s was fun though.

I've fried the evx2 on 4s going into a single input with the other one being bridged
