Transmitter with more than 4 useable channels?

Going to be building a VP phoenix and I need some help with my transmitter. I'm currently using a Futaba 4 channel but the phoenix is going to take at least 5 channels. Steering, throttle, dig, OD, adjustable drag brake on my mamba X and whatever else I can think of.

I can't find any definitive info that the Futaba 7PX has 7 "real" channels. Let alone a compatible receiver with at least 7 channels.

I really don't want to use an aircraft radio just to get enough channels and I hate the idea of using something generic (not a fan of the spectrum stuff)

Is there any options out there with the same quality of Futaba?

Yes, the 7PX does have 7 'real' channels...all of which ARE useable. The "catch" is that most of the fastest receivers are 4Ch...but, they DO have other (surface & aerial) receivers that have more channels. In my non-comp CAPRA, I'm using a 6Ch Rx, and it works perfectly. Granted, it doesn't have the distance capability of the faster 4C receivers, and the latency is increased, but on a crawler those things don't matter.

As an alternative, you might consider the FlySky GT5, or FlySky Noble NB4. The GT5 is the sightly-more-expensive ($60-75) 6Ch 'cousin' of the GT3C...plus, it can be hacked to support more channels. The Noble NB4, on the other hand was originally released as a 4Ch Tx...but, through firmware updates, or now supports up to 12Ch receivers (NO hacking needed. The only "catch" with the NB4 is that it is not backwards compatible with their older technologies, so you MUST use receivers specific to it. Thankfully, the NB4, as well as the receivers, are very reasonably priced ($30-35 for the various 4Ch options, $45-50 for the 8Ch Rx, and $60 for the 12Ch Rx. There are enough buttons & dials on the NB4 to easily utilize all 8 channels of the FGr8B receiver. Almost forgot to mention...the NB4 has a color touchscreen.

Just wrote this in daves thread.
I'll copy and paste it here.

Have a GT5 with my AXE Great Radio. Works fine.
But I ran across the Radiolinks. RC6GS model. These are a very capable radio. I call it the best 400.00 radio in an 80.00 box I ever bought.

I ran JRs back in the FM days, and with 2.4s I started on JR, but also had a few Futabas, but landed on the Nomadio Reacts. (still have 2). They were 399 when new while their flagship radio the Sensor were 550.00-600. This Radiolink does everything my Nomadio did, with 2 more channels on it.

the one limiting factor is only 10 model memory slots on it.
Otherwise
6 channels with full mixing capability on all channels.
Telemetry so you get signal strength as well as Battery level on the RC as well as the Tx ofcourse (can also read just the Rx battery if you're on a gasser/nitro).
S.bus capable.
1800 ft control as verified by many users.
2s-4s Capable Transmitter battery. I run a 3s 2250 tx pack in mine.
2 handle thumb buttons.
2 3 way switches
all accessory switches can be changed to operate as needed so they can be 2 way/3way or momentary contacts etc.....

They have Gyro that can be turned off completely, not just turned down.

additional rxs are from 13-22.00 12 for an RC6 6chnl no telemetry/no gyro rx to 22 for the rc7g receivers which have gyro and telemetry capabilities.

Overall, its a great radio.

biggest downside beyond the 10 model memory limit is the old spectrum type transmitter case.
Bit Bulky, can't onehand without a thumbpaddle on the steering wheel.

Very good pentometers are used in it. Control to inputs is right on the money. very sensitive to a light finger for feel if that is your driving style but no lag (even at 1800 ft) fat finger wheel spinning response as well.

No I get nothing from them. Not a sales guy or even a fan boy beyond I bought one, and for 80.00 I'm happy to spend 15 minutes typing this out for others to read. Wish I did get a sellers cut lol I could use the extra green. lmao

I don’t know if they changed this in the V2 of the radio but the aux channels configurations on the V1 are assigned based on the button or switch they are assigned to. The 2 3 way switches are very useful and you can make them 2 or 3 position based on endpoint settings but the button and VR knob suck as channel controls. The button is 2 position momentary only which is next to worthless and knobs in general are terrible as channel control (a big reason I haven’t bothered with a GT5). The more I use my RC6GS, I find it to be more like a 4 channel radio with an occasionally useful 5th channel. Still a good radio as long as I don’t need to rely on more than 4 channels.

Do you have any more information on the GT5 hack? I haven't found any information. Curious to see what it offers compared to the GT3 hack

Sorry. I don't have a GT5 (I have the GT3C & Noble NB4, as well as the Futaba 7PX). But, if you go through the posts, and find those who have the GT5, and have hacked it, you can PM them for directions.

I was able to make the thumb buttons non momentary contact switches. I have one set up for lights on 2 or 3 of my rigs and the other is setting idle ready to be used for 2 speed or other 1-2 position options.

On my AXE Rig, I have to get another on/off switch for cnl 4, which will be for the Rock Lights. 3 is for the standard lights, 5 is my winch.
On my Ryft, 3 is for 2 speed, 4 is for normal lights and 5 will be rock lights. 6 is used for Adjustable Drag brake (set on 3way).
Same on my SSD rig.
So I've had no issues with the 2 thumb buttons.

I realize I can search for it, I'm saying I have and I haven't found any information about it. I wasn't asking you for instructions I was asking you where you saw it can be hacked. I haven't found anything even saying that's possible with the GT5. It would be great to see another option

I thought is was in this thread...but, upon rechecking, I realized it wasn't here. Honestly, I don't remember where, specifically, other than it was in a forum thread...and, even in that, I can't remember if it was RCC, RC Tech, or RC Groups. If I could be of more help, I would...but, I'm just as much at a loss.
