Tower Hobbies No Coupons on Axial Kits

All the complaints, that tells me that Tower is still trying to let the LHS make a buck.
MAP pricing is here.

Maybe it was the LHSs telling Hobbico to cut the crap. I do purchasing and pricing. I know how much it sucks when you have to compete against your own vendor.

This will ensure that I get my next kit from my LHS, as I have no incentive to buy direct from Tower or Horizon.

If everyone is shopping with coupons, then everyone is paying full price anyway.
Uh what? No. If everybody shops with coupons at Tower you get the same price, but it's not full price. Do you get the same coupons at your LHS or even other online stores? In most cases the answer is no.

They can't just give away their profit margin, so the more people who use coupons, the higher the "retail" price needs to be to compensate. From the perspective of all customers' purchases combined, coupons are a zero-sum game. They only give the illusion to individual customers that they're getting a better deal.

That being said, I do love getting a $50 discount when I buy something expensive from Tower. It's a great marketing gimmick.
Again, this is not true at all. They are a distributor that is direct to customers. They can cut prices because there is no middle man or at least not as many middle men along the way. Plus, they sell in mass quantities so they buy in mass quantities which gets them better prices than a smaller store or an LHS. When Tower sells their own products direct they have even more ways to cut prices. If they raised all prices $50 they wouldn't be competitive at all. And they don't raise prices. Take a non HobbiCo brand such as Team Associated. Are they $50 more expensive than the competition? No. And with coupons they will beat pretty much anybody. So Tower's coupons are not the same as your typical coupons where they price everything higher than the competition and bring it down to competitive levels with phony coupons.

It's not simply a marketing gimmick. Can you get RC's for the same price anywhere else? If so, please share that place because I haven't found anybody that can beat Tower.

Regarding buying different brands in protest -- have you bought a Horizon product lately? (Losi, Vaterra, ECX, Spektrum) They already don't allow discounts, and their product prices are higher as a result -- $550 for a Ten-SCTE -- but there are noticeably fewer corners cut in the design and manufacturing of those products. My Baja Rey has gotten a couple "ooh shiny" upgrades, but I basically run it stock, and it holds up to punishment that most other brands would need upgrades to survive. I even kept the stock tires on that truck, something I haven't done in a long time.
Wow. Yet again this is untrue. You can buy Horizon products direct and they do offer coupons. I get $25 coupons all the time via email.

Well now that is a point, I don't agree with it but here is why. ( I do see understand your point also)

My LHS sucks and is very over priced, and generally have zero after market support for crawlers. As a result I have become a customer of RPP hobbies in CA. While not local to me it is a brick and mortar store that is a LHS to someone else. So RPP has used their discounts to bring me in as a customer. The coupon code usually means I don't have to shop around for the best pricing because the coupon covers it.

All the coupon does is cut into Rpp margin, well that an get them customers they normally would not have.

My LHS doesn't do crawlers, RPP carries VP that Tower doesn't.
On the same products Tower is always cheaper with gold club and coupons, RPP gives a discount coupon, not as much as tower. I buy my tekin's at my LHS, they take care of me, close to towers price, but a bit more.
I cannot beat Towers customer service, RPP is great, but do charge restock fees

End result, I buy from all of them convenience does count

When did this change? I used a $63 off coupon on a bomber kit a month ago.

That sucks for us but I am sure it will help the LHS with sales. I think the coupon codes and free shipping from Tower really hurt the smaller LHS. Most people would rather wait a couple days to have something shipped to their door than go out and pay extra for it.

I have only lived here in Vegas for a few months but I have seen several hobby shops close down. One was seriously trying to cater to crawlers and doing a good job of building up crawler inventory, but many of the locals kept bitching about the prices. The prices weren't even bad. If you spoke with the manager he would match online prices. Obviously on larger purchases, sales tax meant you paid more when it was all said and done but that was out of their control. I really didn't mind paying that little bit if that meant that I could drive a few miles and pick up parts myself instead of waiting a few days for stuff to get shipped to me.

This can be said for just about everything he has ever posted, incase you have not figured that out yet.

Well then there's that...

My local hobbytown matches online retailers like tower and horizon. I wonder if they'll match rpp, that would make a big difference on some parts for sure.

The only thing I've bought from tower is kits because there is just no way they can complete. I bought a bomber last month and added 2 sets of proline foams and it ended up being 327 shipped to my door. I live in ca and they don't collect tax either which saved another $30. Like it or not lhs just can't compete with that.

I don't buy kits or rtr's so it doesn't matter to me. But apparently the local hobby shops can compete now that tower doesn't honor coupons.

Yeh..Tower showed, not eligible for coupon, So I ordered my SCX10 II from RPP..had it in three days..I purchase 90% of my RC stuff from Tower, and always use a VERY helpful coupon..but when I wanted to order the SCX10 II..it was out of stock, and then a few days later, in stock but couldn't use a coupon..but I still adore Tower and will place another order soon..

Well Mrs Claus picked up my first crawler from RPP hobby as they offered 15% off. Getting the sxc10-2 jeep body rtr!

just ordered a scx10 2 from rpp with coupon code. sorry tower you lost my business.
