Titan 550 21t

Hope you can help me.

I’m new to the forum posting wise, but I’ve been reading and searching quite a lot.

Up till now I’ve been RC-ing with a low budget short course truck and enjoying it.

So much that I’m considering buying a Wraith. Kit. That obviously means that that I’m in the phase of ‘doing home work’ on the electronics.

First thought: KISS. Keep it simple (and low budget for experimenting). For radio and servo that (relatively) easy but when it comes to motors…pff…

KISS says: follow RTR specs but where’s the fun in that (apart from the Wraith being a lot of fun in itself). So ‘upgradable’ is the magic word.

I’m looking for brushed. It will get wet, trust me. Don’t feel like f…ing up an sensored BL system because I messed up the waterproofing on the first try.

The motor should perform at least on par with stock 20t but preferable with more torque for more crawl ability. Speed can be regained through spur/pinion changes or ultimately adding 3s lipo. I will start with 2s lipo because have those. This means the motor must handle 3s and not run hot at 2s. 3s capable can be found in the specs, no prop. But how do I make sure the motor keeps running on a comfortable temperature at 2s? is it as simple as: gearing as high as possible, but as low as you must?

Considering the statements above I was thinking of the Titan 550 21t w/ Hobbywing QuicRun 1060 60-360A.

This motor seems to perform well in the Slash and Telluride (roughly same weight) especially on 3s.

Anyone with an opinion on this one?

Can anyone make an assumption on the specs of thuis motor? Experimenting is fun at this price.

I'm running the Titan 550-motor in my SCX when competing in TTC.
I have used 3 and 4cell with a HH BR-XL WP.
87/14 gearing, gets HOT. Havent tried it yet with 56/11 32p, TTC next weekend so I will find out
Power: Yes
Wheelspeed: Absolutely
Sucks power out of batteries: Oh yes, my 2200mAh 11.1 battery is empty after just 10-15 minutes at full throttle

IMO this is a cheap motor but it works

I just order another Titan 550 for my SCX10. I like the motor a lot. Torque for days and a bit of wheelspeed too.
Cheap but good.
56/12 gearing for me.

The HobbyWing ESC is inexpensive. But I've always liked my HobbyWing stuff.

I'm running a Trinity Monster Maxx 21t in my SCX10 and Telluride with 90/14 gearing in the SCX10 and stock 83/12 in the Telluride with the trucks running a Venom 5000mAh 9.6v in the SCX and the stock Traxxas 8.4v in the Telluride. Not sure what all I'm going to get from the Telluride, but can usually get a couple hours out of the SCX10 and get more than enough wheelspeed out of both. Kinda wish Trinity would bring that back with the P94 endbell, found a noticeable difference in an Integy 55t when I one of those endbells on it.

My SCX10 Is running a Venom 5000mAh 9.6v or 8 cell nickel metal pack for now, but I will eventually go to a Horizon Hobby Reaction 5000mAh 3s 30c pack in it.

The Telluride is still running the 3000mAh 8.4v or 7 cell nickel metal pack that Traxxas provided with the truck and would eventually like to put the same Reaction 3s pack I mentioned above.

For the SCX10, temps tend to be very good unless I'm running it for long periods of time wide open and even then, it wasn't bad.

Tye Telluride, is too new of a build and has yet to see any rocks, or any crawling other than the curbs outside the the HTU I work for.

@robertjpjr: since you are riding a SCX I assume slow crawling is okay. But what is your ride's topspeed with the (I guess) 21t? Walking, jogging, running, cycling? I'm building a Wraith so I'm aiming for cycling speed. And is that on 2s or 3s? Thnx.

I would say jogging? Depends on your fitness level
Its plenty fast for me on 3s. Slow crawling on 2s. If u are build a wraith for cycling speed I would go brushless. But that's me. A brushless setup will last longer. Brushes wear out especially at cycling speeds. For extended periods of time.

My jogging pace..... well...uhmmm: nevermind. [emoji12] Cycling speed in my book is around 12-15mph. I assume, from your acount, that would be possible.
I want to stay brushed because it will get wet, trust me.[emoji4]

I am plaining on get one maybe this weekend for my Wraith. I use it for trails mostly. Also plaining on one for my Telluride as well. Set the telluride up for trials and with the 2.2 BFG crawlers on it the 12T did not last too long. stock gearing on a 2S.
