Ok guys, I've been on some other sections of this board today and i've been inspired to start a thread. Day after day after day, I see newbies and various people starting threads on "which tires should I get???"

Ok, I'd like to refrain from being the typical guy that says "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON!!" Instead, I'm asking people to do 5 things, Please post up!!!

1. Tire Make/Model and Foam setup
2. Wheel Make/Model and added weight amount on F/R wheels or total wheel weight.
3. Crawler Type/ Chassis
4. Vehicle Weight (approx)
5. Type of terrain you crawl on

Then tell us why you feel that this setup works the best for you.

I really think that this can help ALOT of people out there make an educated descision on what tires/foam they run. I know that there are ALOT of opinions and everyone in entitled to their own.

This is just intended to get the most possible information using the least amount of effort for a "NEWBIE" or even a seasoned crawler to find.

Yes, I'm sure ALOT of us know how to use the search function but who has the time! LOL!"thumbsup"

Hopefully this works well. If anyone has any other ideas on how to organize this post, post up!!

I'll start!

Ok,

1. Tires: HB rovers, White compound , Foams: Panther F400's internal groove on fronts

2. Wheels: Mayhem 7's Berg Offset. 18oz total front wheel weight. 9oz total rear wheel weight.

3. Axles: BERG Chassis: BWD (DNA) Slingshot

4. Total rig weight: 7.4 lbs!!!!

5. Terrain: Mostly smooth round rocks, some broken concrete and very little dirt.

These tires/foam setup seem to work best for me because of the amount of Forward Weight bias my crawler needs to perform properly. The tires Sidehill great and have great forward traction. The traction on smooth rock is not as good as the panthers but they just require a little more wheel speed sometimes to do the same job. They are a tire that does everything VERY WELL. Overall my FAVORITE tire setup so far!

Panther cougars narrowed f-400 foams
losi comp crawler (35t motor, 7 cell batt, 645 servo, hitec radio)@ 4-5 lbs
lots of rocks slick, grippy, off camber, lots off steep climbs
stock Losi wheels
and 3oz's per front tire and 1.5oz's per rear
SSPX0704.jpg

one of the best tires ive seen"thumbsup"

As a newb, I'll be watching this thread. And the search button "always" comes up with 90* junk, 10* real info, and the 10* real info is so long it take three days to read it. Everyone was a newb at one time, and new threads are what keep the site going. So post up my newbie brothers,,post up!!!!

I just bought a set of Panther cougars with double memory foams up front, single memorys in the rears. Mayhem double phattys, 6 balls in each front, none in the back. What are the memory foams that come with the Panther cougars called??? or do they just go by the generic name of memory foam?

Tire/Foam set up... I use two different tires, but the foam set up is the same. Either Panther Cougars or Rover whites with stock Rover foam.

Wheels My Berg offset delrin 2110's

picture.php

Chassis CDW LT2 chassis

Vehicle weight Right at 6 pounds

Terrain Anything from moss covered lime stone, sandstone, river rock and maybe a little muddy red clay thrown in the mix at times.

Both tires work well, sometimes the added height of the Rovers comes in handy. The soft Rover foams really let the tires wad up and bite ledges. I used to run my aluminum wheels, and was very happy with them. I wanted a lighter wheel,so I went with the delrins. I love the chassis,it works well with a 4" shock and yet you can slam the body down super low. The skid is the perfect size to mount a 3 cell or even a 4 cell and can easily place the rx,Castle BEC and dig switches all down low in the chassis. I've found this set up will sidehill extremely well and climb 12" verticle ledges with ease.

Q

1. White compound Rovers with stock foam in front, Losi Gray foam in rear
2. DNA Assasins, 1" wide with 4 ounces in front and custom lightened in the rear. Total wheel/tire weight is 13 ounces fr, 6 ounces rear
3. CDW LT2 chassis
4. Mostly slickrock terrain, with a little granite and man made crap, same tire setup on all of it except for a bit more weight for the verts

I really like the rovers to be super soft, then you can see and hear when the tires grab

Thus why I will be deleting some of the non-tech crap above, to try and help JC keep this all tech related:

1. Tire Make/Model and Foam setup
HB White Rovers - Old Proline "moab" inner foam wrapped w/ the white memory foam of the "proline 2 stage foams" for the fronts. Stock Rover foam in the rears.

2. Wheel Make/Model and added weight amount on F/R wheels or total wheel weight.
WheelWorks 1911's w/ custom machining on rears - 13oz. front 6oz rears

3. Crawler Type/ Chassis
FubarCrawlers Skooter Chassis

4. Vehicle Weight (approx)
Just shy of 6lbs

5. Type of terrain you crawl on
All different type from concrete, sandstone, smooth round rock, to moss covered rocks, to rip rap style rocks.

I like the Rovers because you can get them through TCScrawlers.com so cheap and they work well for my driving style. I like the smaller lugs(compared to the rock grabbers) so they do not tend to fold over when trying to bite on the rocks.

Tire type.
Rovers white,Leopards,Cougars. Proline 2 stage Oversized foams. On the rovers and cougars. Some peachy colored memory foams dont know what they are in the leopards.

Rims and weight.
VP wheels. 11 oz front, 7 oz rear.

Chassis.
Rockshow

Truck weight.
around 6 Lbs.

Terrian.
Sandstone mostley.

I really like the rovers for the forward traction. Leopards sidehill way better than rovers. From what i have read the leopards get better with forward traction as they get more wore down like the rovers. So i will see. The cougars i like also work good to short thou. Sidewalls suck really bad easy to tear.

Tires: Panther Cougars Foams: Proline 2 Stage in front, Grooved F400's rear.

Wheels: HPI Mesh Plastic wheels. Glued tires 13oz front 5oz rear total weights

Chassis: BWD/DNA Slingshot Berg Axles

Total Crawler Weight: 6.5lbs

Terrain: Smooth rocks, Some broken concrete,

The panthers work well where alot of ground clearance is NOT needed. The lightweight setup is good for floating gaps and for steep vertical climbs. The seem to hook up very well on almost all kinds of rocks and sidehill very good. Not my favorite tire but they work very well!

This is mine!

eb6045d6.jpg

Tires: HB white rovers soft compound all over.

Wheels: Mayhem 7s with 10 oz in front/ 8 0z in rear

Chassis: Vanquish Pro axial incision

Terrain: concrete rocks, couch lol

Weight: more or less 6

1. Tire Make/Model and Foam setup
RC4WD Rok Lox 1.9, stock foams in the front(gray...fairly hard), unknown fairly soft foams in the rear

2. Wheel Make/Model and added weight amount on F/R wheels or total wheel weight.
Axial 1.9 plastic beadlocks, 3oz. added up front, none in the back

3. Crawler Type/ Chassis
1.9 scaler/trail rig, Axial axles, Xtrail chassis

4. Vehicle Weight (approx)
~5lbs loaded, mostly up front

5. Type of terrain you crawl on
granite, concrete, dirt, red clay, light mud, children

These tires are super grippy on clean rock, and still good when covered in dirt and mud. I've been really pleased so far, coming from Flat Irons. The added clearance allows me to walk over some spots where I'd be hanging on the diffs with the old tires. I bought them just because they were taller, to be honest. They might be the tallest "scaleish" 1.9 currently.
As far as the weight and foams, I just used what I had. I put the harder foams up front because most of the truck's weight is up front. With 3oz. in the front wheels, the tires were almost flat and they would bind/fold in certain situations.
I'm still trying other setups and if something works better for me I'll edit this.

Tire/make model and foam setup
Proline Chisels/w proline 2 stage foams in front and proline stock oversize foams in rear

Eritek: Comp heavy wheels/ weight added 10oz front and 5oz rear

Chassis/axle: DNA slingshot with Axial axles

Vehicle weight: 6lbs (approx)

Terrain: Granite, grindstone, river rock, concrete, and a little of everything for good measure

This setup works pretty good for me, sidehilling is good to moderate, I get great forward bit and off camber traction. Also they are a tall tire at 5.5" which in some to most situations comes in really handy. The next thing I want to try to improve performance is to sipe them for added traction.

Losi Comp Claws/ Stock losi foams

RC4WD alum beadlocks
Weighted 6oz front and 3oz rear on each

Black widow chassis axial axles

around 7lbs

terrain varys from slick rock to crushed concrete and everything inbetween

If you don't need a lot of ground clearance, The comp claws are awesome! They are unbelievably sticky and wad up just enought to grab a rock and pull you over it. They side hill ok but I'm not very good at sidehilling lol.
They are very competitivly priced also.
They last forever. I ran my original claws for an entire season and they still have 75% tread left.
Overall a great tire "thumbsup"

OK, I've changed my mind on my earlier posts!

My favorite tire setup so far by a LONGSHOT is......

Tires: Panther Leopards. Foams: Proline 2 stage front, Panther f400s rear. Fronts have to be worn down to NUBS!! The rears whatever

Wheels: Mayhem 7's 18oz total front weight. 9oz total rear weight

Chassis: BWD/DNA Slingshot Berg Axles

Weight. 7.5 lbs. Soon to go on a diet

Terrain, Smooth rock, rip rap, Dusty rocks, ANYTHING!

They flat out work!! The tires wrap nicely, Hook nicely, Do everything nicely. After wearing the tires down to virtually nothing they finally do everything my rovers will do but BETTER!! Definitely a great tire now. But unfortuanately they wont last much longer than a few good comps probably. I ran 4 full packs through them on 55t 3cell against a rough concrete wall. Wore em out to the point of tearing off lugs! Just had to glue em back on and they are fine!

Tires: Rover whites. Foam setup is constantly changing. Here's the current stats...

Set 1 on Axial bl's: Slash tire wrapped with 1/2" stock foam stuffed inside the fronts, full Rover foam in back. 10oz ft/4 oz rr

Set 2 on Berg bl's: PL memory foam with halved Slash foams for sidewall support on the fronts, full PL memory foam in back. 10oz ft/4 oz rr

Chassis #1: CC Creeping Death droop chassis, approx 6.0 lbs rtg.
Chassis #2: Stock Axial, approx 5.5 lbs

Both Rover setups give good sidehill support while being squishy enough to grab while going forwards.

Terrain: just about everything.

1. Tire Make/Model and Foam setup
Cougars / hand cut firm foam inner 800 degree standard foam and a 20mm strip of 150 degree foam outer front, 1200 degree inner with 600 degree strip rear
2. Wheel Make/Model and added weight amount on F/R wheels or total wheel weight.
Stock axials, 120g front none rear

3. Crawler Type/ Chassis
Slingshot axial

4. Vehicle Weight (approx)
5lb .5oz

5. Type of terrain you crawl on
Everything, sandstone, calcium stone, raw marble (a bitch to crawl on), granite, grass, dirt, the dog (he is lazy)

I think I have a decent all rounder setup that easily gets me up 55 degrees on stone with plenty grip and great sidehilling while the tires are still soft enough to conform.

1: rovers and proline 2 stage
2: vanquish DH, 6 ss weights in front, none in rear
3: ax10/integy cf tvp (ugh, soon to change but extra holes were better than stock plates)
4: unknown for now
5: sandstone, limestone, granite

Nice crawler, I'd like to know if you have any more pics of it? I'm thinking of buying that chassis. I would like to see where you put the battery.

You do realize you dug up a thread from 2009...and if you're talking about the VP Incision chassis...unless you can find a used one I don't believe you'll be able to buy a new one.

Most people are putting the battery on the front axle in some way...
