A little over four years ago, I was building some pretty sick rigs. I had an online store where I sold new and used parts. Everything was going great, and I was having a lot of fun doing it. Then my wife gave birth to our youngest daughter. She almost died due to complications. It was then that this community stepped up and supported us when we suddenly found ourselves in dire need. I’ll never forget that.
I had to give the hobby up for a while to take care of my family both financially and otherwise. We all know how medical Bill's can cripple a budget in no time flat even with insurance.
Fast forward four years and our sweet Penelope is doing so well. She is completely ‘out of the woods’ at this point. No more surgery, no more anything. She’s as healthy as an ox, and about as strong willed as one too. There is no doubt that she has me wrapped around her pretty little finger.
Our boys, 6 and 8 years old, have really taken an interest in a couple of SCX10 II Honcho’s that we recently acquired. I can’t begin to express how impressed I am with the improvements Axial has made on the SCX10 platform. To date, I have only had to replace a set of links.
The only reason I had to replace the links was because Caleb, our six year old, rolled his Honcho II down the side of a mountain. It probably rolled a dozen times before it came to rest. The end result was that he had broken the upper rear link on the driver’s side (that would be the left side for my Aussie and English friends). He’s sitting on a set of R2J stainless links now, which should hold up to the abuse he’ll subject it to.
I love spending time with my boys, so now that I have more time and resources to spend on the hobby, I am building a SCX10 from what old new and used stock I have from my online store. I’ve had to order a few things that I didn’t have in stock, but I’m to the point now that I have pretty much everything I need to ‘complete’ the build. By complete, I mean to say that it will be drivable; since nothing is ever really complete in this resource (time and money) expending hobby.
Here is what I have thus far:
Body
I’ll get some detailed pictures up soon enough. Cheers all!
