It would have been nice to know these were going to go on sale for $299, but thats ok.
However, I picked mine up for just a few more Duckett. First things first was: de-sticker. "They're not paying me, that's not my name"

Well it appears the center diff is empty, could it be already? a vitavon spool is on its way!
We'll see how different it handles after that modification. Since i have the extra RZR REY trans to play with i can just swap this in.

Swap the motor with plate and all and be ready to rock for a total of 5 runs or 30 minutes before lol.

This factory connector has a line that went in the center of the plug. The adapter bypassed that too. I now "want" to use a standard mountable xt60 plug. What to do with the 3rd wire?

You could put a bit of shrink tube over the end of it then stick it somewhere or tape it to the other wires. Then it could be used again in the future.

I have an old rock rey and it took a lot of tuning to get it to a point where I like it, but now I love it. It will never be great at handling but I love how scale it drives. I locked the center diff but opened the rear on mine. That let it turn better. Best improvement was travel limiting straps on the trailing arms; that reduced the traction rolling quite a bit. Now I can drift around in dirt all day.

The stock motor and esc on the rock rey cogged horribly so sensored brushless was a necessary upgrade too.
 
What did it power before though? Oh well. I have the new bulkhead here and will put the battery connection on the new one. The "spare" is for my scale 2020 chevy project. I had bought a bunch of rock rey parts (stock rear axle, front cvd's, " HR aluminum farbon fiber c-hubs, knuckles, steering mechanism" ) in a lot $50 and all otneeded was a ned axle housing. So i know the RR came with a locker in the rear, and my HR has all 3 open diffs. Ok I'll find a sensored motor for this. What kv do you think i should shoot for?
 
I currently have a hobbywing max10 3665 motor and 140a esc combo in mine, I believe it is the 3200kv motor. I only run 2s and 3s and that is fast enough for playing around the yard and hill climbing. If you can fit a 4s in the battery tray then you could try the 2400kv. I haven't had any heat issues but I don't push it too hard.

I had a hobbywing Axe 550 3300 r2 system in it and that was great. Could change settings from my phone to switch from crawler to basher. I pulled it out when I gave up on the rey ever being a crawler.
 
So i picked up the combo from my LHS that you mentioned. I did after watching numerous videos online with it in a hammer rey. They also sold me on the OTA bluetooth dongle while i was in there20241001_125542.jpg
I'm not going to install it though, because I want the cinatown vitavon center spool to come in first, so I don't have to repeat anything. I've become lazy these days.

Now for the front diff i plan on using 500k and the rear 1M. Or should I do both in 500k, 1M? I don't want to run a locker in the rear, but also have lower viscosity cst silicone oils i could use overall. Never really tuned anything with diffs that hold fluid.

Also found complete Lighting kit take offs from UDR's for less than half what Traxxas wants, so I think I'll get that for the UDR.

So I removed the transmission out of the hammer rey to take a better look and see what I had going on there, and wouldn't you know, all the silicone goop had leaked out and it smelled of crayons for some strange reason. Also Losi seems to have updated the diff screws from the (BR left) Phillips to the (HR right)allen also the (RZR rey pictured in center) has an aluminum diff cup and an steel end. 20241003_135803.jpg20241003_135808.jpg
Since my vitavon spool is not here yet, I'll just have to just watch a video of how to install it. Meanwhile I'll take apart the diff and go from there. I pulled out some competition to the stock tires top to bottom (PB growler 2.2) (AE nomad DB8 2.2/3.0)(RC4WD ROC LOX 2.2 ) (JConcepts scorpio 6")20241005_015217.jpgand I think I have found a good temporary. However, it's 2.2/3.0 and used, so it's ok. Now, I just need some good nylon wheels with a 12mm hex any recommendations ?
 
So I'm considering aluminum front lower arms.

However in the past, I have always stayed away from them, as that usually translates to damage further up on the chassis or in the suspension department.
Also in the past I have had good luck with combining RPM suspension products and aluminum knuckles/c-hubs.

Opinions?

RPM arms and replace once every 3 months or so, or Vitavon? Anything replaceable on those?

For rigs that go fast I really like the plastic A-arm / aluminum steering knuckles combination. Aluminum A-arms do too much damage to my chassis, resulting in more work for me.

RPM's arms would not likely need to be replaced every few months. I've found their lifetime warranty to never be necessary. And I've had them on several go fast bashers that were driven primarily by my young children.
 
So not much new has happened, other than that I ordered the BR/RR SSD front bulkhead diff-retainer, RPM arms, and an GPM alloy steering support. I also decided to buy and try out a RPM bumper for the rock rey to protect the front of the chassis plate a little bit. We'll see how it goes. Also these are the wheels I'll be

using after I order some better foams for the 6" jconcepts scorpios tires this will be running.
 
Parts started showing up this and last week. However, the Losi aluminum lower links look flimsy enough that they'll fold the first outing, and will NOT go on this build. I didn't realize they have a through hole and not a solid bottom, so the RR will get those since it is a lighter vehicle. IMG_20241012_193333.jpg
I like that you can replace the ball ends, but thats about it. Now I'm in need of more of a solid choice for this truck.

I took my RZR rey center diff out (whole transmission actually)and drained it, to use up front since the housing is aluminum and the cap is steel, it should hold up to power much better than plastic. Rear will get the same at a later time.

Bit more work got done. I certainly got tired of the small bearings falling out of the GPM alloy steering stabilizer, so I'm not sure if that is just a quality issue or a standard fit for GPM parts. Pulled out the teflon tape and pushed the bearing through the tape into the part. Boom, stays in place!20241021_003023.jpg20241021_003015.jpg
Can't see the aluminum link mounts, but they're under there, just some cheapo brand. Fit and finish is nice. Also slapped on the Hot racing axle mount that came in my "pirate snatch" parts lot. Lastly installed the new rear bulkhead (destroyed old one) and just waiting for me to spend more money on parts (trailing arms)

Also, since I gave everything I owned that was 1:1 bike to him, I need to borrow my neighbors motorcycle chain lube for the pinion to spur gear so no fling and a bit more shhhhhhhhh

Pirate snatch part Hot Racing knuckles got installed on the stock plastic c hub for now. Bearings, ya they're still the ones that the knuckles came with, but it's time for new ones.

Bought a decal that will break up the black and red a little bit, goes with the "theme" and it's the "drivers" name.

Ran into an issue, not thinking that there is a slight measurement difference between the mounting holes on the bottom of a rock rey and a hammer rey bulkhead/chassis
