I know it is subjective, but I am looking for the best Class 1 tire for my Hilux build. Can be either 1.55 or 1.9. I prefer a tire closer to the top of the size limit of 4.18" and a width closter to 1.5" that 1.0". I also want a sticky compound with nice flex on the rocks but enough etiffness for sidehilling. After all that, I know I will have to compromise on some of that, specifically the height and wodth but I do not want to give up the sticky and flexability.

This is a list another member compiled of legal Class 1s (I am Highly disappointed that Proline makes nothing in this class)

1.55 and 1.9 RC4WD All Terrain
1.55 and 1.9 RC4WD Mud Thrashers
1.55 and RC4WD Rock Crusher X/T
1.55 RC4WD Rock Stompers
1.55 RC4WD Rock Country
1.55 RC4WD Mud Slingers
1.55 RC4WD Desert King
1.55 RC4WD Invader
1.9 RC4WD Prowler XS
1.9 RC4WD Rock Creepers
1.9 RC4WD FlashPoint Military Tires
1.9 RC4WD Rock Stompers
1.9 RC4WD Out Croppers
1.9 RC4WD Mud Slingers
1.9 RC4WD Mud Pluggers
1.9 RC4WD Dick Cepek Mud Country
1.9 RC4WD Trail Busters
1.9 RC4WD Tomahawk

What are you guys seeing out there. I am leaning towards the 1.55 Invaders or the 1.55 Mud Slingers.

1.55 Mud Thrashers are just too short, IMO, especially for a rig with big axles like Axials.

1.55 Rock Stompers aren't bad, but the center lugs are too tightly spaced (IMO) so only the outer lugs end up doing all the work it seems. Great looking tire, though!

1.9 Mud Thrashers won Nats this year. Something to think about.

1.55 Mud Slingers are what I'm currently running (on 1.9 wheels) and I'm really happy with this combo. Although, I must admit I'm interested in the new 1.7 Iroks RC4WD jsut came out with!

The proline comment is interesting. I remember when the TSL's came out the gripe was they were too short.

I've got to second the flashpoints, they are a great all around tire. I think a little work needs to be done to them to make them optimal but even stock they are good.

I should point out that I've also been impressed by the Flashpoints, though I've never owned them personally. I would likely run them, but they're only scale for industrial sized rigs. ;-) I'll have them on my 8x8, though.

Thanks guys. Tommy and Justin, I wholly agree on the flash points, love the look and size and I am going to use them on a Mog I am building.

I love the Proline TSLs, I wouldn't run any other tire in compition than the 2.2 version (Big Oly now has a set) but in the 1.9 it is a tweener, to tall for class 1 by the rules and to short for class 2 comps in my opinion.

I mised the release on the IRoks 1.7s and I love the IRoks look and feel, so maybe they will work. ALso looking at the Invaders in 1.55.

Wow, thos 1.7s look good, I wonder if I could stretch them onto some 1.9s for now since the 1.7 wheels aren't out.

That's my plan! 8) Like I said, I'm running the 1.55's on 1.9 wheels right now. I'm sure the 1.7's will mount up no problem! "thumbsup"

Here's some pics of them mounted on 1.9 Pro10's:

I think they look great mounted on 1.9's, not too big and not to small.

Yep you sold me Tommy, I am ordering 4 for my Hilux, Now to find some Black wheels, maybe steels. Wish I knew someone that could anodize my silver Darksouls.

the iroks are a awesome tire, great compound as far as my testing has gone.

im doing a smaller build right now and am probably going to cut down some TSL 1.9's to fit the 1.5 rims im not really happy with any of the smaller diameter size tires they currently have.

3.75" is my goal height.

I really don't understand why Dick Cepek's are not on the list. Yeah they are not a military tire. but all in all I have lot of luck with them and haven't had any issues in wet sandy stuff or dry dirt. They do rather well for sticking if your rig is built to low CG preferences.

I gotta tell ya Neil. I really like them. If you buy them and dont like them. I will buy them from ya for what you payed."thumbsup"

BTW, our terrain here in Billings is not too much different then that at Starved Rock or The Chain O lakes

Are you talking about the Mud Country's? If so, yeah I do agree, nice tires. I had those on my D90 and they worked well in the dry, not great in the mud or snow but then again, I am not planning in running a class 1 in much of either, thats what my Mog will be for. They actually replace a set of Proline TSL which is absolutely my favorite tire but just didn't fit the look of the D90.

anyone know if the RC4WD Mickey Thompson 1.55 Baja MTZ's are legal in class 1? they look really good for a class 1 rig and are made with the X3 compound
