Hey everyone,
Just wondering if the Tekin FXR 35T combo is a good choice for a scale truck (SCX10 Honcho). Or would I be better with the 45T?

I want to have good crawling ability but still be able to have wheel speed for the mud.

I will be running 2S lipo with 30C discharge for power.

In my opinion the 45 turn motor is going to be way too slow on 2S to be much fun in a scaler. I run a 35 turn motor and 17 tooth pinion with an 8 cell nimh pack in my SCX-10. It's almost fast enough for me, but it still crawls nicely. I'll be upgrading to a 3S lipo soon for a bit more speed.

The 45t is way too slow on 2s and only okay on 3s. Wheelspeed is very important sometimes. Get the 35t or better yet the axial 27t. 3s on the 35t is pretty good but on the 27t is awesome! disclaimer: tekin does not rate the esc on 3s for anything lower than a 35t, however many people are doing it with the 27t so just a warning

The one advantage to FXR is it's size... makes it easy to hide in a scaler.

I currently have two FXRs and one Sidewinder, but the next speed control I'm going to buy is the Holmes Torquemaster BR-XL. It's quite a bit bigger than the FXR, but doesn't need a separate BEC like the FXR does.

You could also run two 2S batteries in series for 4S, that should work pretty well with the 45T motor. I wouldn't run 4S with the FXR though

I run the FXR with a 35t brOOd motor in my comp axial with 7.2v. It has good wheel speed and torque. I like the FXR for its size and in field tuning. You wont need a BEC for the 2c lipos. Just my 2 cents

Would the Novak Rooster crawler be a better option?

Looking for a combo around the $120 mark.

The FXR is a much better ESC and programmable too. "thumbsup"

You can't adjust the drag brake or other parameters on the rooster which sucks big time.

I run both of them in different scalers but I run 3s LiPo. The 35T seems to have a slight advantage over the 45T, even though I run a smaller pinion on the 45T to make up the difference in motor RPM's. I really like the Tekin products, when you shop around you can find a motor/ESC combo for around $100.

What do you mean about the BEC? Specs as per the Stormer Hobbies link above, have Voltage Cut Off and BEC 6.0V. Is that what we're referring to here?

I too, am possibly in the market for a new ESC/motor, so am keen on peoples input.

The fxr internal bec is only rated at 3amps which isn't enough for a crawler servo. So, ya need an external bec like the 10amp castle one to avoid overheating the esc.

I run the FXR with the 35T and have been very happy with it. You have to run a separate BEC, I recommend castle. It is a solid setup, the bec and FXR are still smaller than the rooster. You also can't forget the programming that can be done on the FXR and the Castle BEC.

I have the FXR and a 45T motor that is powered by a 2S lipo, so I can help you from my own personal experience. If you are mainly going to be doing rockcrawling and trail work, go with the 45T motor. This will give you lots of torque and precise power control when climbing. If you are mainly going to be doing mudding, get the 35T. The 35 T motor will give you the extra wheel speed you need for mudding. As far as some peoples' wheelspeed concerns, the 2S setup with the 45T motor provides plenty of wheelspeed for rockcrawling and trail work. I have yet to be in a situation where I needed more wheelspeed than my rig could provide (and I take it through some pretty extreme trails).

Been running my FXR for over a year without a BEC in my SCX with zero issues. This is with a hitec 5465mg servo. If you are running a high powered servo it may be necessary, but for a scaler it's not. That servo pulls less than 1 amp at 6v with load so a 3 amp BEC is plenty.

i run the fxr/pro hand wound 35t tekin setup in my scaler with a cc bec set at 6.1 v. i also run a 16t pinion because i needed to drop a little wheel speed and keep from overheating the esc/motor. keep in mind this is all on 3s. you could always run a 22t pinion on the fxr 35t motor with a 2s lipo and have plenty of wheel speed aswell as keep temps inline.

What spur/pinion combo would you run with the FXR and 35T hand wound combo on a heavy scaler. About 8.5 pounds. Right now I run a goat2s 18.5T using 87/12 gearing. I use a 2S lipo and run a CC BEC. Just dont want to overheat. Thanks!"thumbsup"

i recently got my xr10 and wondering if i should go with castle or tekin. also 35 or 45t ill be runnin off 3s. i have my ax10 on a mamba max right now and love all the tuning options , i didnt know tekin was programmable until recently does anyone know if its as indepth as the castle , such as setting percentages for everything and your torque curve etc.?

as of now i have a spare mamba max 3s im not using and was just going to get one more but i have an scx10 i recently got and was gona put it in that and just sell the ae2 but i see lots of people running the ae2 on 3s .not really sure what to do , i think i may just go and get two tekin fxrs with either 35 or 45 t probably 45 for the xr10 and switch the ae2 outta the scx10 for the mamba max .

i see lots of people adding a capacitor to the tekins is that included and u just solder it on or you have to pick up seperate ? if seperate what sixe cap most people usin?
