So this all started off with a cheap ta02 i bought from scumtree and wanting to build a crawler that was different from the others.
The first version of it was this, New Bright F150 Raptor body, aluminium centre chassis with HSP centre mounted crawler gearbox.
The very first version had an acrylic plexiglass chassis but this snapped at the front quite quickly.
This worked well but on a trip to france i took it out on the beach rocks. With an exposed spur gear and a mixture of sand and salt water this lead to a stripped spur and rusty bearings.
It sat in my room for about 5 months collecting dust as i worked on my hilux but recently i bought a cheap New Bright RR Sport Body so i decided i should get it up and running again.
I reverted back to the original ta02 tub as this was the perfect wheelbase for the rr sport body. I then designed and laser cut some acrylic gearbox mounts for the centre and a rear body mount. I also mounted the servo inbetween the shock towers and relocated the shocks to the rear of the arm for better steering.
I wanted it to look quite agressive so i decided to cut the arches out, cut bumpers off and bobtail it. (I eventually ended up cutting roughly 20mm out of the rear end)
My phone died and i got carried away so here is the finished and painted bobtailed rear end, i used milliput to smooth the join but it still looks kinda crappy up close. While i had the milliput out i also filled in the wingmirror holes, antenna hole and a small crack in the bonnet. The last step was trimming the windows. I also took the lights out and disasembled them and painted the insides black to give more of a dark overall look to the body.
