SSD 1.9 Wheel Fitment on Capra Portals

I have been test fitting my 1.9 wheels on the Capra and found the following:

1) All SSD 1.9 steel wheels will clear the Capra portal without any issues as the back of our steel wheels are completely clear:

2) SSD00142 1.9 Double Time wheels need a 3mm offset hub (SSD00194)

3) All other SSD 1.9 aluminum wheels fit over the portal housings.

However as we use M2.5 cap heads inside the back of the wheels the cap heads just just touch the outside face of the portal housings.

So there are a few simple ways to resolve this:

a) Use an offset hub, this is not really necessary

b) Use a slightly wider hex, I plan to make some ASAP

c) Replace the cap heads with M2.5 x 8mm button heads. This should be done one by one after the wheel is assembled with cap heads first to prevent cranking and stripping of the smaller button heads.

The fact that button heads solve the clearance issue shows that the extra clearance needed is small (~0.5mm).

b) Use a slightly wider hex, I plan to make some ASAP

The stock Wraith hex adds just enough width for a perfect fit with the stock hubs on the Rock Racer wheels. I would imagine this would be the case for many other SSD wheels as well.

These hexes fit pretty well but require quite a few shims to take up the space between them and the stock axle spacer. Having an option that is a direct fit with the same dimensions would be great. Even better if they are a Wraith-style stepped hex design that fits better into the SSD/SLW hubs than the stock flat face hex.

I’d be interested in a set when they become available. Getting ready to start a build but have been holding off on the wheel selection until someone got the clearance issues sorted out.

Yes will do a stepped hex to fit our hubs (SLW compatible). The button heads can be used a temporary fix.

So the steel d-hole models 00003 and 00006 show having a regular hub not the axial stepped one right? I assume that would make them a direct fit with the kit hexes. Any issues with these mounting 4.75 Hyrax with included foams or CI dual stage?

No kidding... I've had them on backorder for a few weeks now. SSD, are these going to exist again?

Omg a few weeks it must be the end of the world. They just came about a month ago. I’m sure stock will be replenished in due time. I’ve been waiting for the j concepts land mines since mid December and I’m just waiting. Everyone wants everything yesterday. Just be patient.

Yes we will have more in a few weeks...

Few weeks? Bummer... this is the last item I needed to wrap up a 2.2 build.

Guess I’m slapping some TRX4 tires I have sitting around on the 1.9 wheels to get things rolling while we wait out the supply chain

So I ordered some Double Times 1.9 for my scx10 iii build. I'm seeing that I may need a hub to clear the portals. Are the 6mm recommended or can I go smaller?
