That's on Spektrum site.

I know what the little DSMR description says, I'm telling you my experience and what Spektrum tech support told me.

Horizon Support said:
New laws restrict us from being able to manufacturer DSM2 capable transmitters. The newer surface radios will no longer support DSM2 receivers.

The DX5 Rugged also lacks the 16.5ms frame rate the manual mentions is needed for DSM2 receivers.

For EU this is true. And make sense for other countries also. But I think for US DSM2 is still available.

There is DSM2 Surface, and DSM2 Air, and they are different, everything you can find now is DSM2 Air will not bind (I have tried 3 different ones, generic and from Spektrum). Possibly if you had an old surface DSM2 FROM SPEKTRUM it might bind, but I wouldn't count on it.
Edit:my experience is with the dx5 pro, dx5c and dx5r, I do not have a rugged, so maybee definatly not if there is no refrence to it or 16.5ms available.
Bottom line with Spektrum expect to pony up for there higher priced receivers.

I have a couple sets of Duracell Nimh rechargeable AA's 2200 mah batteries I use in the bottom of my TX's. Run time is days and then 2 hours of recharging and you have days more to go...

So which would you prefer the rugged or the 5c. A main has the rugged at 199 with the 5 channel reciver and the 5c with a 6 channel reciver for 149

Personally I still prefer the 5c, but the steering wheel on the rugged is pretty handy. But the touch controls are quite the learning curve.

I have to say, I chose the Dx5 Rugged. I find the thumb lever actually falls into hand readily and the sections where you are just walking along I found it rather handy. I also dropped it on my last trail run. I have fallen on my face, and my rear more than a few times in snow and mud and the knowlage that it is shock and water resistant made the extra $50 worth it to me. The touch pad does take getting used to, but it took me less than a minute.

I have a question. I was setting up my rugged last night. I'm using A as aux1 for the my winch have it set up as momentary and when I hit the button I'm getting winch and throttle together. How do I change it so it just operates the winch?

Ran into this on mine too, you have to go disable the button in the menu for the other function it's triggering

Trying to set up a 3 position light switch and I'm having the same issue. Turn the lights on or off and it triggers the throttle. I'm not sure I understand this answer, anyone able to explain how to fix it?

The channel you are trying to use for your lights on/off is possibly tied to something else. I ran into this on my 5c. Had my winch setup on the F button, and it was also tied to the brake. I couldn't figure out why I kept loosing my reverse.

This. You have to go into the settings for whatever secondary function the switch is tied into and change it to a different switch or disable it.
