Jeff is in Kindergarten. He was four when he started, turned five in September. Just squeaked into this year's class with his birth date.
Over the past couple of weeks Jeff has come home with notes from the teacher.
The first one said that he "spanked" another kid at lunch with his (soft-sided) lunchbox.
I asked Jeff why he did it and he told me that the kid hit him first.
I told him "No big deal. If someone hits you it's OK to defend yourself. Just don't hit someone because you're mad, that's not nice."
"OK", he says.
Last Thursday he comes home with another note from his teacher...
"Jeff slapped a kid in the face today."
So we had the conversation again.
"Jeff, why'd you slap this kid?"
Jeff didn't say anything, just stayed quiet. I figured this was a situation where Jeff was in the wrong since he wouldn't give me an answer.
I told him he was grounded.
So, since Thursday night Mina and I have been talking to Jeff about behaving at school and not getting into trouble. Put him on the bus yesterday morning and reiterated "Jeff, don't get into trouble at school."
He gets home yesterday afternoon and I asked hime how school was. "Good."
"Did you get in trouble today?"
He looked straight at me, "Yes."
I couldn't believe it.
"What did you do?"
"I choked Melvio."
At that point I was like  There's no way I heard that right...
"You did WHAT?"
"I choked Melvio."
Sure enough, I looked in his paperwork and there's a note from the teacher saying that Jeff was choking another kid at lunch and that she wanted to see us.
Sent him to his room for a while then went to talk to him.
Asked him who he hit with the lunch box... "Melvio"
Asked him who he slapped... "Melvio"
Asked him again who he choked... "Melvio"
Asked him why he's doing all of this and he says "Melvio keeps hitting me."
So, after finally getting an answer for why he was choking the other kid, I told him he wasn't grounded.
Went to see the teacher today, had a long talk. She was talking about how it's not like Jeff, etc.
I asked her if she actually SAW Jeff choking this other kid.
"Yeah, I did. I went to get them out of the lunchroom and when I went through the door I see Jeff with this angry look on his face, both hands around Melvio's neck, choking him. I said 'Jeff, what are you doing?' and he looked at me with a straight face and said 'I'm choking him' while continuing to choke Melvio. Both hands around his neck."
I couldn't help it, I was laughing. :lmao:
