This is a build I have been working on this winter. Picked up the kit back in spring, i think. I like that GMade produces kits. The BOM caught my interest back at it's launch but I was slow to get to it. I have been slowly accruing aluminum option upgrades to work into the build

This version is the GS02f, it's the second generation model of the BOM and features the transfer case and forward mounted motor. The transmission also has a built in overdrive and 2 speed shifter. The BOM is unique from the other GS02 rigs by the way of it's rear cantilever suspension and caged bed. For this build my plan is to ditch the plastic cage and braze my own out of 3/16ths tube.

This is the box it comes in:

Started by building the axles. The plastics are a nice hard nylon

I added some GMade/Junfac alum option parts

All of the hardware for the entire kit comes in one big bag. Within that bag are well-labelled small bags with each different size piece. It's takes some getting used to digging out all of the screws as you need them. They are well labelled and so the process is simple, it just takes more time and slows the build process. Once I got into the flow of it I quite enjoyed the process

One of the more interesting aspects of this build is the rear cantilever suspension. The suspension here is set up with the softer springs both front and rear. I also added aluminum option parts here

The JUNFAC steel driveshafts seen here are also an option part.

Here is the Transmission mounted into the chassis. It's not pretty. Would be nice to see a greater level of detailing in the housing. The motor is forward, but sits above the chassis rails. It is no VFD, this is for sure.

The front shock hoops are SSD parts designed for the SCX10.2. They bolt right up

Added these nubs on as a way to interface the cage and body

This is where the cage nubs come through the back of the cab. I used E6000 and some unused bushings to fortify the holes I reamed

Designed the cage to carry a spare(cause you never know when you might want to get geeked on the scale details)

Looks fantastic! I love tube work, and this is good stuff

Absolutely jealous of all you people that do your own cage work. It looks like it's coming together great!

Another great looking build smog!"thumbsup"

You may have to quit your day job and go fulltime in the cage business! Cage work look spot on as always! Let me know when you start taking orders!;-)

Thank you Goro. it isn't difficultAs it goes, the hardest part is the first bend...

Thanks for the encouraging words B. They are appreciated. I will let you know if I get to that point:)

Looks great Smog! I love the chipping method you used, I’ve been wanting to do it again ever since I did it back on the old TRX4 bronco body. Just haven’t found anything to use it on yet…

I’ve recently learned this from styrene as well. Once that base is laid down it seems to all fall in place for the most part.

Can't wait to see it finished, I've been looking at Gmade too. Like you I wish
the motor was as low as the Phoenix. OK, how much for a cage!!!"thumbsup"

Thanks again for all of the feedback guys, much appreciated.

Weather here has been worse than freezing cold so haven't really been able to do some of the steel cutting that needs to be done outdoors. Decided to keep it simple for now and use some prefabricated tabs to make a basic bumper. Likely will not stick with this, but quickly brazed this thing up for now

Decided to go with the new 1.9x4.65 Falken MT from VP mounted up on some SSD beadlock wheels.

Added on the door handles

This pic gives a sense of the RTR plastic cage compared to the one I made

Smog, that paint and cage work is on point! I have a GS02(not F) BOM and love it. Soze's build threads have been very informative and inspiring to say the least. Mine has a Holmes Crawlmaster Mini V2/Revolver 1800kv V3, and a Holmes SHV500V3 direct power servo. Only mods are SSD front C-hubs and brass weights up front. Amazing rig! I love Gmade rigs and have 4 currently. I did get a Buffalo last year which has the same transmission as your BOM. I do/don't like the 2nd gear speed. it's shockingly fast which is fun, but difficult to drive when the esc is set up in crawler mode. Had to switch the esc to forward/brake/reverse which is hard to get used to when you're so used to instant drag brake. Agree about the build. Very enjoyable if building is what you love, which I do. Keeping an eye on your build!

Sorry to resurect this thread!

Im about to build that truck, are the SSD C-hubs you guys use the scxII ones? i dont see them listed on the SSD website under the BOM section...

Also, any other mandatory updates should be made from the start when building this kit?

Thanks in advance!

The chubs and knuckles in my build are made by Junfac. I believe they are a branch of GMade. apparently some SSD parts made for the SCX10.2 will fit, but I cant personally confirm this. I have only used the SSD front shock hoops.

I don't know that there are any mandatory updates. I often upgrade my front steering parts beacause I like the quality of aluminum not because its necessary. Others may chime in with a different experience
