Slightly odd question: Pro-Line XL 1.9" stretched on 2.2"

Being as how several manufacturers state that the XL-series Pro-Lines are either hard to fit or are "not recommended" for certain wheels, and the fact that I have no Pro-Line tires to actually inspect - I am curious.

What is it exactly, that makes them harder to mount?

Is the different bead style to where it might work better if stretched on a 2.2" wheel?

I specifically want to use 1.9" XL tires, but it would be for use on a 2.2" rig anyways - since the 1.9" XL tires are quite tall enough for my desired application this could be a nice workaround...

And yes, I have heard many times that the XL tires can be "made" to work with basically any wheel - but I really don't want to have to fight to get it done.

Wheels would be Vanquish 2.2" SSZ-clamp type with the smooth internal rings and 5 screws holding them together, 1" wide.

Much appreciation for any information!

Appreciate the info, i'm aware that stretching will work in many cases...

However, I'm looking for very specific info on the Pro-Line XL beads.

Vanquish states the following:

****These wheels are not easily compatible with Pro-Line 2.2" XL tires

And I know it has to do with something about their bead design.

Just wondering if the bead issue "goes away" when stretched up a size.

The wheel is the Vanquish SHR Vintage 2.2".

thicker tire beads and they are slightly larger then 1.9 is what makes them harder to mount on most 1.9 wheels

Proline beads are different from most everyone else (except duratrax) so or non xl the beads are the same.

The bead rather than being an L where they sit in the wheel they are a triangle so they clamp differently. I rather like their beads, yes they're tougher to mount but once clamped in do not let go.

Exactly - it's the shape of the bead that makes Prolines different. As WT said, they hold better than any other beads though. If you rip a Proline tires off the rim you are doing something wrong. So you get the best tires with the best beads all from the same company. Sounds like a win to me!

They can be slightly more difficult to mount, especially on some wheels, but I've never found a wheel that they were impossible to mount to.

All Proline mounting complaints over the years came from a combination of:

-Proline's different shaped bead
-Proline's enormous stock foam inserts
-The inherent problems of trying to mount a 2+ inch wide tire on a wheel <1 inch wide
-People are idiots

3 of those are only slightly problematic and 1 is the real issue, you can guess which is which.

:lmao: Hint: If you don't choose the right answer you probably are one...

Will be using aftermarket dual-stage foams, wheels are exactly 1" wide, tires are 1.75" wide for fronts and 1.9" wide for rears (using 1.9" tires, they aren't quite as huge as the 2.2" XL-series)...

Who hasn't been an idiot at some point of their life?

I've successfully mounted 6 sets of various beadlocks so far, but not with Pro-Line brand tires - only Axial, RC4WD (1.7", 1.9", and 2.2"), Vaterra, and Losi tires.

I've tried and failed to mount Team DC tires on 2 sets of wheels - Incision and Chanquish - they are being glued to RPM Revolver black nylon crawler wheels at a later date... (they have an extremely narrow bead).

"thumbsup"

ive never had a hard time mounting any proline tires ever. ive been using dawn dish soap since the hammers came out for beadlock rims. its not really that much of a pita without the soap anyway.

soap trick isn't for internal beadlock ring wheels.

I don't think you will have much of an issue if you figure the trick out. ill give you a hint.. or maybe you already know, you start with the tire inside out.

When you are using ci foams its easier to flip the tire right side back out while over the foam if going on a inner ring. My foams are easier to "center" this way for me.

The funny thing is that some Proline tires are very difficult to mount on certain wheels, but if you put them on Proline wheels they just magically fall into place. They fit so well. Like, literally.. if you just throw the tire in the general direction of the wheel, it will mount itself.

It could also be that people are trying to mount them to the cheapest aluminum wheels they can find (eBay, amazon and thowing up sound made the wish app). Some companies do make Pro-Line compatible in rings for inner beadlock wheels. I have 3 sets of locked up rc wheels with 3 different brands of tires on them. Pit bull rock beast xor, Pro-Line hyrax xl size (first mounted with stock foams then with CI foams) and rc4wd Goodyear mtr 4.19 size, and none of them gave me any problems mounting up. Locked up gives their wheels the easy mount label for a reason. I understand not everyone’s budget allows for a $100+ set of wheels, rings and hardware, but you also get what you pay for.

My experience is actually the opposite. A few cheap China wheels I have take the Prolines better than anything, because they clamp the bead so damn hard. I've also had success with various cheap Gmade wheels, because their diamater seems to be slightly bigger than normal.
