Severe chattering at full turning lock?

Looking for some thoughts on this issue i'm having with my Capra build. At full turning lock, i'm getting really bad chattering and I can see that whichever wheel is turning in the inside position, is noticeably rotating faster and then slower, then faster, and slower. Going straight forward or backward, the rig is fine. I made sure to phase the Incision VDI universals.

I have stock ring and pinions in the diffs, TGH mild overdrive portal gears in the front, and stock ratio TGH portal gears in the back. I'm using the VP Capra portals, SLW 600 hubs up front, and brass portal knuckle weights.

I compared what was happening to a stock RTR Capra, and although the issue was still somewhat present, it seemed quite a bit less noticeable on the RTR.

Anyone else having this issue or have any thoughts on what could be causing this?

I did notice that if I gradually ease on to the throttle while the wheels are still pointed straight, and then turn the wheels more slowly, the issue seems a little better, but if from a full stop, I turn the wheels sharply and then try to move, it exaggerates the issue.

Appreciate any input on this!

Mark

Pretty sure this is fairly common at full lock when the wheels are off the ground. Unless it's REALLY bad, I wouldn't worry about it as once it's on the ground, and there's resistance at all the universals it's not a problem. Especially at rock crawl speeds.

What's happening is the play in the universals is augmented when held off the ground with no resistance. Also, the drive shaft angles when the suspension is a full droop are at their most severe angle. So all that and the steering as full lock will cause that. Every one of my rigs will do that to some extent. That said, I won't make a habit of running it like that at full throttle full lock. The bouncing back and forth with the play can cause a little wear.

Appreciate the response! I’ll have to double check but I may have a little more steering with this set up than the RTR Capra. If that ends up being the case, the more extreme angles of the universals at full lock could be the culprit.
