Sensorless crawlers

Hey guys. Has anyone tried using sensorless brushless motors for crawling that aren't one of those "outrunner" style ones?

I just installed my 4600kv castle in my trx4 and it seems like it might actually work if i gear it down enough. But, the hobby store is closed til tuesday so i cant try it for a few days [emoji853]

The motor itself is sensored but i dont have a sensored esc to pair it with so it's running through my sidewinder 8th.

I'm so curious how the low speed control will be after its geared down. Anyone have any experience trying this?

I suspect you will experience a degree of cogging.

No smoothnees at all which is key in crawling.

Yep. It didn't work. Even with 9/45 gearing it was too fast and cogged at lowest speeds.

On a bright note, i discovered the trx4 and slash 4x4 use the same pitch gears so i already had the 9t pinion. I wanted to gear it down a bit anyway so the purchase of a 5 dollar 45t spur was gonna happen regardless. Now im running at 15/45 and it seems like a good balance of wheel speed and low speed control, and I'm Back to using the HH 21t trailmaster.

Was a run experiment anyways!

Yes. I was running 15/39 before that but it wasn't what i wanted. I tried 9/45 with the trailmaster but I missed the wheel speed I wanted in certain situations. Like when you get high centered or something.
