Scx24 esc dead. Looking for replacement that will work with stock tx

I burned out the motor on my scx24. I want sure if it was the motor or the esc, so I thought I'd test the esc with my dmm. While trying to hold the leads and hit the throttle, the leads touched and my esc only has reverse. I've got 2, that's how I know the motor is bad in one and the esc in the other. I'm wondering if other brands will work with my transmitter. Since the motor also needs to be replaced, I've been looking at an upgrade, but I don't really want to buy a new transmitter. Of course the ae-6 seems to be out of stock everywhere, I was hoping something might work with what I've got.
Thanks.

The esc/rx combo can act as a receiver only with a pass through function. If you have a spare esc sitting around, you might could try it to see if it functions that way.

Plug your new ESC into the channel 2 pins like You would a normal receiver. This will bypass the internal ESC even if it's burnt out and let you keep your transmitter. Just remember the stock electronics will now act as a regular receiver. That means the battery and motor will plug into the new ESC, Which plugs into the axial electronics, along with the steering servo and everything else.
