Ok everyone, What is the best 1/18 scale rig under $200.

Not wanting to comp but want it to be a good performer out of the box with minor upgrades needed such as the obvious wheels and tires. Thanks for the input.

Traxxas TRX-4M for sure. I don't want anything to do with Redcat until they can prove they know what they're doing. Plus the Ascent is more performance than scale.

The Traxxas TRX-4M is, without a doubt, the best scale 1/18th crawler and it is under $200.

Hobby plus cr-18p evo pro hands down best performing out of the box for $169.00. You could easily dump twice that much into a trx4m and it still wouldn’t keep up with a stock evo pro.

I wanted to take a second to point this out in a different manner.

However, Jato has made an excellent point that is dead on. Which partially covers what I wanted to expand upon...

I've owned a metric ton of R/C's. Every place you're going to save a couple dollars, you're going to flat out BURN in other ways.

While the TRX4m is a bit more that some models, and cheaper than others. The aftermarket support grows by the day. Same with the Ascent.

People really need to search for "<model> upgrades" and "<model> parts" when thinking of purchasing an R/C vehicle of any type.

I've spent 3 decades in R/C, racing, building, repairing, and the last decade refurbishing vintage models. Finding parts and mods, is the worse area for many many models. Choosing a model that has a healthy amount or even an overwhelming supply of parts and mods now, will only benefit you in the future!

Have over a dozen HP rigs only had an issue with one and customer service took care of me. It might have took longer than say traxxas but there is a time difference between Cali and china they always responded back the next day.

Stock replacement parts can be found easily and there is some aftermarket support maybe not a hundred different Chinese companies selling you the same parts with a different name of course but parts are out there. With that being said I haven’t needed to buy many upgrades for the evo pro to dominate over some of my other rigs that have tons of cash and aftermarket parts thrown into them to get them on the same level as the evo pro with a set of brass rims.

I was just trying to give the OP a honest answer. He asked for something good out of the box with minimal upgrades and the evo pro definitely fits the bill.

Redcat Ascent 18. Aftermarket is gonna catch up real quick. Few details give it a win over trx4m. Otherwise the same upgrades.

I love my Ascent-18's but I don't consider the scale at all, it's much closer to a comp rig. For scale I would have to say either a TRX4m or FMS I think there is probably better parts availability for the TRX4m. I think a question that needs to be ask here is it going to be built and used out on the trail or built and used as a running shelf queen?
