Rough start up with Tekin RX4 and Holmes puller pro 2700kv

Ive recently finished assembling my vanquish VS4-10 ultra and began driving it. The start up is very rough (similar to a non-sensored brushless system) in both forwards and reverse however reverse is much worse. Once beyond initial roughness the trucks runs smooth and strong. Ive trying changing some settings using the hotwire and nothing has helped reduce or eliminate this issue. My setup is Tekin RX4, Holmes hobbies puller pro v2 2700kv, Holmes BLS500 servo and a Futaba receiver and 4PV radio. Unlikely to matter but i am also using gens ace 3600mah and 4600mah 3S battery packs.

Any help with this issue will be greatly appreciated.

I initially setup a tekin rx4 and puller pro 2200kv in my pro, I had the same issue. Adjusted throttle curves, lowered pinion size, tried that setup in another rig and still wasn’t happy. Switched to a mamba x and got all the smooth startup I wanted.

I did try the rx4 with the 2300kv roc412hd in my 6x6, and it worked a lot better than with the puller pro, but still not quite what I was hoping for. The tekin setup ended up getting sold in the 6x6 and I don’t have plans of using one any time soon.

Sticking with castle, holmes and HW for now.

i would try replacing your sensor wire. it might be bad.

I had the same thought with mine, you can disconnect the sensor wire and compare, if there’s no change than that could be an issue. Mine was way worse with it disconnected, which led me to believe the rx4 just isn’t as smooth as other speed controllers, at least not with the puller pros. But idk. Look forward to seeing more responses in here.

Ive tried basically the same things. I was figuring thats what i was going to have to do. I have a RX8 and Pro4HD in my bomber and that setup is great, starts smooth tons of power basically zero complaints. Hopefully John Holmes and somebody from Tekin chime in as they may have seen this issue before.

I had the same experience with an RX4 and a HH 3500 kv setup, upon start up it would click as the gear mesh came together. I just swapped in a Mamba X on Friday and the 'click' no longer occurs and startup is much smoother. I also played around with throttle curves and various settings before I gave up on the RX4 but I couldnt get that working any smoother at start up.

This RX4 has spend more time on the shelf than powering rigs, I just keep yanking it out of setups, its always lacking somewhere.
