So I've a Proline Rock Van project and all I need is a chassis, basically. At nearly the same price I'm considering the gatekeeper kit vs. builder's kit 2.

  • I already own one enduro kit and upgraded all links, so have the original set - This means I can bring the gatekeeper kit wheelbase back to 12.3 by reverting to 4-link.
  • I can sell the gatekeeper cage/body and recoup some $$.

This seems wise to me. Is there any advantage to buying the builder's kit instead that I'm not thinking of?

AFAIC, you only buy the Gatekeer for the WB/trailing arms. If you're gonna shorten it, just go with the Builder's Kit, which also has the FT links. The GK doesn't have bumper mounts, the rear shock towers are unique to trailing arms, etc, etc.

I know this because I built the MORR Banana off of a GK (when it was on super sale at Amain) and had to replace soooooo many bits.

If you opt to go with the GK and want to retain trailing arms, Extreme RC 4x4 has a kit to run them at a 12.3 WB.
