Removing paint masks???

I'm having trouble removing paint masks without the paint pulling up or peeling. Are there any tricks to this? Is using an exacto knife the only way to prevent this problem?

I'm using Faskolor lexan paint.

I also always have the same problem when using vinyl paint masks, using 3m blue masking tape it's fine. I'd like to know how the "good guys" do it.

Do not wait too long to remove mask after painting. Not more then 1/2 hr.
I usually take it off about 5-10 minutes after painting.

That's kind of hard to do if you're using multiple colors/layers etc... especially the window masks.

It depends on the angle of pulling.

Pull towards the mask.
Not towards the paint.

try a couple of things.
1. use a hair dryer to heat the masking material. it will shrink a little making it easier to pull off.
2. you might be putting the paint on to thick. Spray a thin coat and use hair dryer to speed up the drying time. apply second coat and dry etc. 4 coats will much less likely to pull up than 2 thick coats. The most important coat is the first, it's critical that it's dry and adhering to the plastic BEFORE apply more coats.

I actually have better luck waiting a day before pulling it off... let the paint cure and harden up more... when I speed dry stuff to get extra coates, it never seems to dry completely, thus peeling up a layer or 2 of paint...

I havn't had an issue with Vinyl paint mask at all, but the masking tape (a bit thicker) does work a little better.

I recently used XXX Main paint mask. I used multi colors so I had to pull masks at different times. I sprayed like three light coats of paint before pulling the mask. I had no problem with the paint peeling you may be pulling the masks to soon. But then again I used an aerosol paint I have no clue if that affects the time of when you can pull the masks.

I made sure my first coat was light but I probably did spray it on a little too thick after that. I think I might be using too much paint in general. My airbrush is cheap and I get impatient!

I had the same peeling problem in my house when I used caulking over the blue tape. However, I tried the green "frog" tape from Home Depot and it made perfect lines without caulking! Anyway, getting off topic...
