rc4wd winch

Hey forums, getting a rc4wd winch here in a bit for a new build. How can I run the winch without running a 2nd battery? Can I use my main battery that powers the car, or have to run a bec? post a link to the battery's you use.

It all depends on how you want to run it. you need a winch controller. rc4wd or heyok to be able to run it. wire it in to your esc and run a bec. Definitely alot easier then running 2 bats. As long as you have a extra channel you can do this. Rc4wd also offer a wireless setup in the event you have no open channels. Good luck hope this helps
 
I have the warn 9.5 winch on my rig. I use the heyok 4a winch controller. It plugs inline with my lipo/esc, so I don't need any other packs to run the winch...no e plug and play setup !!
 
OK nova rider. I don't have great run times off of my nihm battery, that's why im going to wire it to a bec

You are aware that regardless of whether to hook it straight to the battery or to a BEC hooked to the the battery, the amps are still coming from that battery, right? All a BEC will do is cut down the available amps and voltage to the winch.
 
You don't need a BEC if you're running it straight to a battery. Just wire it to the battery. The RC4WD winches are rated to 3s lipo.
 
Also, the winch is not going to draw enough amps from your main battery to make any noticeable difference in run time. Really, you'll probably lose more run time from the added weight of a second battery that the motor has to drag around.

You're slightly overcomplicating something that is really pretty simple.
 
I have the Warn RC4WD winch
and wireless controller.

I run 11.1v 3s LiPo

I wired directly from the wireless controller input wires...
to the input wires to the ESC... but nearer the plug ends.
Solder and heat shrink to make the splices.

Don't wire/solder it to the battery side
that would be a major hassle.

the Warn winch runs best on 11.1v
and my wireless controller has held up to that.

RC4WD recommends voltage input... 6v - 11.1v

I personally would not run the Warn 9.5 at less then 9v
6v is gonna be weak sauce for sure.

You could run an additional battery directly wired
to the wireless controller... inline on/off switch is convenient
But you would still want that battery to produce 9v - 11.1v
and there's the additional weight added
plus determining it's mounting location.

forget the BEC... you don't need that for the wireless controller.

You can test the winch individually for operation...
by hooking it up to any 6v - 11.1v source.
reversing polarity causes the winch to spool
in either direction (in/out)

just saying...
cause it's a good idea to rule out
that the winch is in anyway of fault...
when things don't go as expected.

Three things can go wrong with the RC4WD Warn wireless combo...
the winch could be defective...
the controller could be defective...
the key fob could be defective or have a bad battery-contact.

Follow the user guide to the letter to bind.
there is no chime, bell or whistle when doing this.

not trying to scare anyone off...
but it's occasionally a hit or miss deal.
No real worries tho'
Because RC4WD will back their products
and will attempt to help with resolve over the phone.
