Rc4wd wheels cut beads!

I recently picked up a set of rc4wd race line monster 2.2 wheels for my wraith. I mounted up some baja claws and ran it a few times and thought I lost a bead. After taking it apart I realized it actually cut the bead. I thought maybe it was the tires so I mounted up some mud slingers and after a few runs it cut the bead again! Is there a solution to this or do I need to get a different set of wheels.

So after the first tire got cut you went ahead and mounted another set up and expected a different result? Sweet.

I'd probably have ground the edges off the bead lock ring and wheel before mounting up another set of tires.

You may need the inner ring that rc4wd makes that are for proline tires....
just a quick guess.......
So he needs the RC4WD rings for ProLine tires when he's mounting RC4WD tires to RC4WD wheels? :lmao: False!

The truth is these wheels are known to cut tires. You're not the first and apparently you won't be the last because Made In China RC4WD refuses to correct this issue. Good luck getting any response from them. I don't think they have taken the blame or stood good and replaced the tires or wheels in any case that I am aware of.

#1 check for sharp edges, sand/bevel all edges that touch the bead.

#2 assemble the wheel with no tire/foam. check to make sure there is a gap between the rings and the wheel. if there is not, sand down the outer rim on the wheel until there is. you want about a business card gap there.
and of course smooth the sharp edges again after.

I run the same wheels on my wraith as you can see in my avatar with the stock axial ripsaw tires and haven't had a problem in over 2 years. The best thing you can do is contact customer support at support@rc4wd.com

I bought the wheels long before I was a team driver and I must say they are still some of the easiest beadlocks to mount I've ever owned, just be sure to not over tighten them.

No gap. No burrs or sharp edges, just a design flaw. Ring is too wide.

Ate $60 worth of tires here too. How they are still selling these rims without fixing the design, I'll never know.

I had the same problem with a brand new set of these wheels and Axial Ripsaws, got rid of the wheels ASAP. The wheel lock ring hardware is also poorly formed (threaded area looks triangle shaped not round like a screw should be lol). This hardware is also loose in the tapped holes of the wheel, LockedUpRC hardware fixed this, but not the cutting tires problem.:evil::evil:

Yes.

The internal lock ring on these is too wide for any tire, and sooo thin, it' like a knife even after sanding, scotchbrite etc. The wheels are unusable, hard to believe they still sell these tire cutters.:evil: Sad, since they are good looking wheels.

really, just look at the picture...
there is no room for the rubber.... and the rings made for proline should correct the problem..........

there is another brand of wheel that does the same thing........
they came out with a new ring to fix the problem....

I always assemble my wheels before mounting tires to them just to check for this very issue. I had this problem with the RC4WD stamped steel wheels and it was one of the reasons I made the spacers that I was selling for awhile. Just not enough room.

I think you missed my point. Yes, buying the ProLine rings might fix the issue, but he's mounting RC4WD tires not ProLine tires. RC4WD tires should fit on RC4WD wheels without any modification or without the purchase of extra parts.

Exactly! "thumbsup"

Looking at the picture is the first indication that RC4WD needs to pull these from their shelves and stop selling them OR include that spacer free of charge with a warning to NOT use the original ring.

Continuing to sell something that doesn't work is one thing. Continuing to sell when it knowingly destroys $60 worth of rubber is another. Just my opinion.

There is nothing wrong with them if you ask rc4wd I'm sure. The wheels look good but perform badly. That's like the rc4wd motto if I've ever heard it. :lmao:

Those look almost exactly like mine, except mine cut even more cleanly lol.

Precisely, when assembled there is obviously not enough gap on either side of the internal ring for any tires. Add in the overly thin knife-like lockring edges and wala, instant tire bead removal. WTH?

take a piece of painters tape, wrap it around the ring. leaving about 1/16 gap showing on one side.
sand on a flat table until you get to the tape. this will leave a 1/32 gap for the bead on either side.
be sure to debur

Or just buy wheels from some other vendor that knows how to make them correctly. "thumbsup"

I contacted rc4wd about this issue and they say they are send me new inner lock rings and new tires. I hope the new rings work. Not bad customer service so far with them. If they send me everything and the new lock rings solve the problem I will be a happy customer.
