RC4WD Gelande II 1/18 Motor upgrade!

Hey all. I found a way to mount a F 050 long can motor to the stock transmission!!!

RC4WD puts a motor spacer/mount on there small motor that you can remove and FLIP over (so the holes mount up) to use on long can motors which seem to have the mount holes the other way.

I used a stock ecx barrage long can with the stock motor mount flipped and that allowed me to install the ecx barrage motor exactly like the stock 030 motor!

It fits perfectly and even with the bigger pinion the ecx motor came with, you still have plenty of torque and A LOT more speed. You will have to drill a small hole where the pinion is for clearance. And I’d use my stock pinion off the small motor but mine blew up and that’s how I figured this out.

I feel like I have 20-30% more power with the long can motor and I think a 12t pinion that the barrage motor came with.

Hopes this helps the few who have a mini RC4WD.

I can still climb all the home made obstacles just fine. And others that I could not climb, I can now with the extra wheel speed.

Link to the motor with 12T pinion installed.

Cool find. I use those motors on all my micros.

Thank you. I’m not sure how I missed that motor adapter on it. I removed the motor from a r5 transmission I had purchased for my RGT 1/24 and I don’t remember seeing that motor plate.

I only want the long can motors too. It seems silly to use the tiny ones.

I like the 12t pinion the ecx barrage motor came with. But I think I might go back to a 10T as it’s almost fast walking speed.

EDIT: I like the 12T with the long can motor more than I like a 10T pinion I also tried.

Here is the motor plate. I found I like the stock barrage 1/24 motor with its 12T pinion the best.

This motor with a 10T pinion was cool but I felt it was too much torque and not enough wheel speed.

So buy a ecx barrage 1/24th motor. Leave it’s 12T pinion it comes with on.

Flip this motor plate and enjoy your much faster with plenty of torque RC4WD mini.

Ah shit. I forgot I had those linked. Yes I did remove them. I assumed it was old news not needed anymore. Sorry man.

No sweat. I found a few others. Seems this is the way to go. I ordered 4 of these motors earlier today.

For $5 each why not, right?

Oh dude, the RGT motor with the 12t pinion was so much faster and still have plenty of torque I then used the RGT motor with the RC4WD smaller pinion (dont remember if its 10T or 11T) and that was pretty sweet too.

While I love my RC4WD mini. It has so much drivetrain slop that I kinda like the RGT with the 12T pinion best. I figure if its not the best for slow controlled crawling because of the slop, I might as well make it a mud truck and just hammer down and mow shit over!

WOO! Bronco POWER! "thumbsup"

I made a deal on two used D90s. Maybe I'll try the 10t on one and the 12t on the other. :ror:

You guys have me wanting to try and squeeze one of these into my SCX24...

I could not get one of the 050 motors attached to my SCX24. The bolt pattern is opposite. I was not willing to drill new holes out of fear I would mess up.

So I stuck the RC4wd 030 motor in my SCX24 and its got WAY more torque. It does not stall anymore.

ANd I put 050 long can motor in the RC4WD Mini and used the motor plate the RC4WD mini had on its 030 motor flipped over so the 050 motor would install (030 and 050 motor mount holes are opposite of each other diagonally).

I then put the 030 RC4WD motor in the SCX24 with and that was a very nice increase in torque on that.

Id put a 050 in the SCX24 if I could. But I wasnt willing to try and drill new holes. And I have enough torque with the RC4WD motor and its smaller pinion to bend the SCX24's axle links when stuck. I feel its got enough power and control for me.

In all of the above. It was simple like legos to put together.

RC4WD mini = RGT 050 motor with the motor spacer plate flipped.

SCX24 = RC4WD 030 motor as is just installed for instant torque upgrade.

Chevy55, somehow got a 130 motor in his. I think its a 130. It looks like a mini Z motor. He said it fit right up.

But that man is a beast in fabrication. Hes the one who made the 6x6 with double whammy tranny. So I dont know how he did it. But he did it! "thumbsup"

Re: RC4WD Gelande II 1/18 Motor upgrade!

Yeah that’s the one. Did you keep the Rc4wd pinion on it?

Or did you swap the stock pinion to the RC4WD motor?

I used the RC4WD motor with the pinion that came on it inside my scx24.

I lost some speed. But gained a lot more torque.

I DID keep the metal pinion on it as I noticed it had a couple less teeth (11t?), so there may have been some improvement there, but I also have larger tires on it now as well (Scramblers), so there's that to consider as well.
