If this was the only pic I saw of your rig, I'd swear it was a real 1:1. "thumbsup"

Then it means the photo works, right ;)
I trying to make it work as much as possible, but it's not so easy. Composition, lens choice, background and light, all these elements need to balance to get the right feeling. Practice is the key...again :)

thanks man!

RC4WD gelande II D90 – New shocks

I upgraded the shocks on my D90, replacing the original ones with some team raffee 90mm.
Not only the shocks work way better, but that 10mm more travel is pure joy. The truck is much more capable, better clearance, better articulation, easier to go over things. Great update!
And colors match the pilot "thumbsup"

RC4WD D90 Patina
stha_2020_61.jpg

The RC4WD Gelande II D90 shows its driving scars accumulated over few years of intense use.
It has a nice natural patina. The cage is bent here and there, but on a heavy truck like this one, it a must to have, protects the body really well. Without it and with the multiple crashes, this body would have cracked everywhere!

Where it has been repainted over and over again, it almost became a camouflage paint…

Metal parts also show some good use. The tires (pit bull growler 1.55) have a nice rounded pattern, so far from brand new ones 🙂 But they still grip very well, the compound got very soft.
So far, the truck performed perfectly, only changed the axles since the original build! It will definitely see a lot more abuse.

Love your D90. 8)

The one pic of the ‘yota’ axle (that you said you replaced) that has multiple scratches, gouges and dings—I really enjoy seeing that kind of repeated honest wear and tear. Such realism. Seems no one else really dares to use their rig in the same way (a lot of shelf queens)

So all the physical damage to the body, tow shackles, winch fairlead, that is real and not simulated?

Only one nit to pick: the rear lights. The lights you have illuminated are basically specialty lights. The one opposite the driver should be a clear reverse light and the other on the same side as the driver should be a (red) rear fog light (Euro/UK spec). When it is turned on, the rear fog light shines about as brightly as a brake light.

...However, there’s photo evidence of 1/1 Defenders with modified rear lights and more lights added, for example. But the original light configuration just goes to show how asymmetrical, minimalist and utilitarian the design is. Seems it was “just enough to get the job done.”

The top lights left and right (small red) are the stop and tail lights.

EDIT: the small front lights slightly above and outboard of the headlights are illuminated with the headlights. I guess they’re similar to North American ‘parking lights’ but are clear, not amber. The bottom are of course the amber turn signal indicators.

Just a heads up for all those super-ultra-realism-detail fanatics.

Hey!

Thanks, I love it as well ;)

Definitely not a queen, more a hard used adventure truck, all the dents are real, everywhere! That truck took some massive tumbles. Rack has been bent too many times (and still is...)
All our trucks are the same. Used.
Look at my tf2. Once, it was nice and clean, now it has its story :)

Regarding the lights, thanks for the info. That said, I'm not too much in these details, it's more about fun than hyper real. Just because I would be WAY too sad to crash some of these insane ultra real super cool trucks we see.
So I prefer a more cartoonish look, that accepts some deviance.
Looks at the dash and driver in the d90. No ultra real here :)

Have fun!

Not into super realism? You could've fooled me.
That "cartoon" driver is detailed to death. Polished glossy helmet and ultra matte ('fabric') driving suit. You know how to get your details right...."thumbsup"

And that dash has a lot going on there. Whew!

There's lot of people who don't mind destroying detail, just to repair it again, like those RC warship folks who get masts and smoke stacks shot up with real BBs and actually get sunk. Not the same level of fine detail but still...

Hehe! Detailed but still cartoon :)
I already spend enough time fixing our cars, it's not to get them shot at with BBs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That said playing with these boats looks fun!

The RC4WD land rover D90 got some nice upgrades!
A cchand snorkel that looks pretty awesome and some rc4wd aluminum plates to complement its adventure look and some new rc4wd mirrors, from their d90 2015, looks like they’ll stay longer than anything else I’ve tried…
I had to modify the snorkel so it doesn’t stick out too much, as I don’t want to loose it at the first crash!
