My version of the cool land rover D90!
I installed rc4wd rims, painted with tamiya dark yellow, to match the roof, with pit bull growler 1.55 tires. I really like the look of these!

Really love those rubber flares where have they come from?
Beautiful landy nice clean look not over the top with Christmas tree decorations all over it

Thanks man! I tried to keep simple as if it was my own defender :)
These flares are the rc4wd big boss flares.

They work really well, no stress going between 2 rocks now!
And I was bored repainting every ride because of the scratches...And I really like the look too.
In this photo it was the last time I had the original flares, look at all these layers of paint.

I did some adjustments, as well as some repaint on the d90 and went for a drive to see how all this was looking in real life...
Can't wait to receive the new shocks I ordered as one of the original one is not working correctly (and from the beginning it never felt right, very sticky even after tons of mods).

Nice mate what 1/1 do you drive? Your keeping the interest alive for a d90 build for me. I cant afford to blow a heap of nz dollars on a rc4wd kit so will build it up from aftermarket parts bit by bit mostly xtraspeed stuff. The body I hear is no knock off and is the very same body and rc4wd buys them and re boxes them up.

I spent my childhood in the back of my uncle's series 2 landie so naturally have a soft spot for them.

Have you got a mohave body by any chance? I'm wondering if those flares would go on one. My scx10 is just too wide for my hilux and its bugged me for 5 years lol but don't want to chop it up and put the usual big ugly flares on it

:)
My real car is not as cool as a defender, but it brings us anywhere we need in the mountains. I drive a ford ranger 2011.
I read about the xtraspeed vs boomracing vs rc4wd bodies differences. Unfortunately it's in french (too loong to translate, maybe google won't do something too weird...Différents Chassis Defender D90 : Boom Racing, Xtra Speed et Rc4wd Gelande 2)

I don't have a mojave body, which I would love to have. Instead I bought a proline sr5 that I will use on my vaterra bronco after modifying the wheelbase. Hopefully it will work without going to crazy!!!
No idea if the flares will fit on your body, but I'll put some on the sr5 body.

First I need to find out why my d90 gets louder and louder every time I use it, especially while going very slow, sounds like a piece is loose somewhere... Then it will get new shocks and a new k44 front axle as the yota II has sooooo much play.

Good trucks those rangers there everywhere over here.

That thread and other threads on that forum is the very reason I want to do an xtra speed build and a few chats with some you tubers too.

It sounds like your having the axle issues that the French guys were so grumpy about. That's why they all buy the boom/xtra stuff its a lot better they are every bit as good as a k44 but half the cost especially for them in Europe.

This guy has some nice videos. So if you don't feel like paying through the nose for rc4wd stuff there is other options. Also have you tried shimming the axles?.

I like that proline body not sure why the dove tailed it though

Yep, rangers everywhere here as well, not the sexiest car but its small size is perfect to go almost anywhere!

I debated a lot before getting the k44. The phat axle was my choice but the k44 fits directly the d90 and I always had a very service with rc4wd, I ordered their stuff...
Yes, my axle is shimmed, no play at all. The issue I have is where the steering knuckle is screwed in the axle, tons of play is developing as you use the car. For what I can see the k44 looks much stronger and you can easily fix it if something goes wrong. Time will tell.

I grabbed the proline body because I wasn't sure if a hard body on the ascender would not make the torque twist crazier than it is. I modified the chassis as much as I could, better but not perfect. More weight might be too much, even if I really like the mojave body. Also the ascender is used more as a "real" crawler compare to the d90. It crawls super easy, so less weight is a good idea in this case.

I received a rc4wd k44 front axle today.
Looks rad! Top quality, no play anywhere!
Feels very strong.

Need some grease here…
stha_2019_146.jpg

No problem, marine grease is what I use with success on all our trucks!

This a well used yota II axle that will soon be replaced.
No more steering knuckles play!

Cool!
The 2 axles have the same gearing.

I love the ascender, the opposite of the D90. One has to be driven like a real car, the other is just crazy! It goes everywhere. It's actually to easy so I challenge myself doing harder stuff when I use it ;)

That's how it looks for now, but it will change, just need to find the longer links to extend the wheelbase to 313mm and I'll start the transformation.
