This is a great thread. Ingenuity at its finest.

Sweet scanner too. Perfect for a commercial designer such as yourself. Maybe I'll be sending you some solidworks files and blueprints here soon. I'm in year 2 of my mechanical engineering degree.

I'm really impressed by the amount of development you've given this idea and hope it starts a trend.

One thought though - you could increase the amount of movement available if you mounted the servos ABOVE the universal joint and linked the pushrods to fixed points on the chassis.

The servos could be right up in the chest area, adding their weight to the movable ballast, rather than to the chassis.

Also, it would be really cool to have the helmet pan around, perhaps linked to the steering channel.

I replyied to this but I guess it didnt work.

Flipping the servos is a great idea. I should have done that. Maybe I will.

I am happy with how this rig currently feels. I would like to do a Losi Mini version next. I could put the servos into the figure on that version.

Does anyone want to donate a mini?;-)

This thing needs a BEC badly. I have been procrastinating on getting one because they are so big (at least in relation to the micro servo)

I should get a better steering servo and a BEC @ 6.0v...

Is there such thing as a smaller BEC than the Castle Creations 10v?

My gfs mom knit my dude a christmas sweater!

my vote at first was "MAYBE," but that was before i read the entire thread. my new vote is FOR SURE

My vote was "MAYBE"...until I saw the Christmas sweater!

On a serious note, this is one of the most incredible builds I've ever seen. This level of creativity and ingenuity is rarely matched, and I'm not sure if it ever has been at this scale! I don't know that I would want one (mainly because of the cost of a Tx to drive it), but I am truly impressed. "thumbsup""thumbsup"

Wow, thanks for the kind words.
The Tx is a Spektrum DX5e which is only $60. It took a while to get used to using a stick controller for surface driving though.

Wow, I never looked into anything other than pistol style TXs (just checked them out on Amazon), assuming that multi-channel stick radios would be much more expensive. I guess I know what happens when assumptions are made....just wonder when I will figure out how to avoid making them, lol. Now I can cast my vote ;)

Here's another video.

I think I need a larger scale for this thing to evolve. I'm thinking about a leaf sprung Losi Mini crawler with the figure's servos flipped so they are in the figures body. This one's wheel base is just too short.

To be Continued...

Great video. i really like this! i play all of these style of games on my phone so cool to see it in rc. my only complaint is that the head seems too high. i think if u shorten it, it would crawl better. and the sweater looks awesome!

What about a rally/sct so you can have ifs front and rear???!??! Or a sumo axle/t-Rex axle in the rear with ifs up front? What do you think?

Hmm, ya I was thinking about that. The twin hammers had a ifs and a solid rear axle. That could be interesting.

Earlier I was thinking about using a summit too but the leaf springs would have more bounce. Which is good because you can lean one direction and then the other to kind of Ollie or pop up for greater effect.

Hmm

Quads don't have leafs :)

Mini rock crawler sized would be cool. Or the mini rally to have independent all around like most utility quads do.

But my vote goes to a RZR with controllable driver.

If it is a rally type chassis then there is no real reason to have the figure controlled by different channels. If it is just for leaning around corners than the figure should just lean left when the car is turning left. Also, it could never win any races since the lack of a lead weight at all will always give the car a lower center of gravity. It could still be fun though...

Ah, I see. In that case, I think using a 1/16 summit would be easier for that (although it is bigger) since it already has the suspension and low gear ratio for crawling...I think.
