Pro-Line Aztek

The location of the competition in the last post was one of the reasons I have been trying so many tires over the past few months. The rock is pretty smooth. Traction is decent when it is dry, but when it gets wet, its pretty slick and there are usually a few points on course where you have to dip a tire or two down into the water. Its even more of a problem with Tusks because they dont do very well when they get wet.

The Azteks really impressed us all. I ran them on course 2 and had a great run. I got 2nd place for the day. Probably would have gotten first if I had been running them on the first course. I cant say they are going to be my go to tire for all locations just yet, but they will definitely be the tire I run at several of our local spots.

Nice, they definitely have a chevron-like tread. I am sure I will grab a set of these at some point. Lots to like there.

Had another comp yesterday. This is was back at the first location i ran the set of G8 Azteks. Mostly smooth rock with some jagged areas and steep inclines. I decided to run the Azteks instead of Tusks. On the smooth rock they did good but on the jagged stuff they struggled. I swapped to the Tusks after 2 courses and was able to walk right up a line multiple times that the Azteks could not do and none of the other trucks in the group made. I ran the third course with Tusks and ended up with 1st. Got 2nd with the c1ish truck due to poor time management on my part.

Anymore updates on these tires? I'm tempted to buy a set before the Proline sale ends.

No update on my part. The team comp this past weekend had a lot of loose dirt so i opted to run Tusks instead.

In a couple weeks I plan on testing the Azteks against the megalithics and tusks at Disney, OK. Whichever does best is what I'm going to run for the event. Megs seem to have been the best performing tire last year.

I tested them in G8 and Predator. I even did some lug trimming and sanded sidewalls on the predators. They are not better than my JC tires in my terrain. Tested on smooth granite, sandstone and jagged black rock.

I watched a video review on YouTube for these tires. The guy claims Proline compound has changed and gotten more plasticy. Has anybody else noticed this?

The only Pro-Line tires I currently have to compare to are Krawlers. Got a set of G8s from 2022 or early 2023 and a set of Predators. I think a pair of those are 4-5 years old and the other pair is a couple years old.

The G8 Aztek is hard. Feels like it is harder than the G8 on my Krawlers, but could also be the thicker carcass and the honeycomb inside the sidewall. The Predator Azteks still feel soft and sticky. Again, the whole carcass feels like its a bit thicker than the Krawlers and the honeycomb inside the sidewall makes it more rigid.

I saw the Azteks have an internal "webbing" to stiffen the sidewalls. I forgot to order last night and now the Proline sale is over so probably no Azteks for me right now.

I just got a set of the 2.2 Proline TSLs in G8 compound and the compound does seem pretty hard. Harder than these 2 year old G8 Krawlers.

I do remember thinking the G8 Azteks felt hard when I pulled them out of the package but thought it was just because I had gotten so used to the JConcepts Green and other soft compounds, but maybe there is some truth to the new G8 being harder than the old stuff?

That's a bummer and odd since the G8 is a perfect mix of performance and tire life, but I wouldn't put it past Horizon to ruin something good.
