Kinda surprised there has not been much buzz about the Pro-Line Azteks yet. Anyone given them a try? This is the first set of new G8 compound tires I have bought in a while and they sure arent as sticky as the JConcepts green. My inserts are in the mailbox waiting for me and I hope to get everything all mounted up tonight. Tusks are currently my go to tire but I figured I'd try these out.

If I was still trailing I'd already have a set. I like the look, the tread pattern seems like it will perform, I know Proline's rubber performs and I do not care about a real name on the sidewall.

Maybe I can get a pic posted later tonight. I'm running BAMF inserts in them and they are mounted on a set of the new Beef Tubes BBW wheels (which look excellent). I just put new Priceys shocks on my comp truck and I dont want to change too much at once, so I put them on my VRD for now. Just messing around on my incline board, they did excellent.

I'll run them a bit after the comp Saturday and see how they do.

Got a little runtime with the Azteks Saturday. The steering servo in my main comp rig died so I ended up running the backup rig (VRD) for a couple courses. Terrain was mixed dirt and slick rock. The tires did quite well. I was able to pull a couple lines the Tusks and Megalithics did not pull. I have another comp this weekend that is on smooth rock. This location has given me problems in the past. I might go do a little practice run Friday. I had better results with Krawlers than Tusks at this particular spot so I'm curious how the Azteks will stack up.

Normally I feel like Predator compound is too soft unless its really cold, but I'm thinking it could perform well with these tires since they have the webbing on the sidewall and the wider stepped lugs shouldnt just fold over.

I put a set on my Optic to get them scuffed in before I test them on my comp rig. They seem pretty good but more testing is needed.

I forgot to update...I ran an 850mah pack through the VRD with the Azteks at the last comp spot. This place is smooth rock with some steep climbs. The area is halfway surrounded by dirt so as the day goes on, the rocks get slicker as they get dirty.

I ran the truck for 10 or so minutes here and there throughout the day. At first, the tires were hooking up quite well. Traction started off better than my Tusks. There was one line that after a dozen plus tries, my comp truck simply would not pull and the VRD walked it no problem. But as the day went on, the performance degraded and the Tusks were doing better. I think since the JConcepts Green compound is softer/stickier than Pro-Line's G8, it just took longer for the dust to stick to the Azteks and slick them over.

As for why my comp rig wouldnt go up that line...This truck does not seem to like having lots of travel, so swapping from 80mm Dravs to 90mm Priceys was probably not the best idea. I switched back to the Dravs, but this time they're purple.

To update, I got the G8's scrubbed in and they were not as good as my Tusks or Megs. I got them in Predator compound and I am getting them scuffed in now. I think the low and wide tread blocks are better in predator compound. I gave up on the G8's and sold em cheap but testing continues on the predator Azteks.

I keep going back and forth between G8's or Predator Super Swampers for my 8 lb TF2. I'm concerned that the Predators will fold too easily although I want a supple tire obviously. I feel like I'd be better off running the G8 with a softer 2-stage foam rather than a harder foam in the Predator compound. I talked to Edmundo at CI about this but still not sure which direction to go. Trail truck mainly but rocks are always on the menu... dry sandstone and limestone.

Any thoughts?

Keep us updated. I'm wishing I had bought the Predators myself.

It has been a while since I ran TSLs. They only had the G8 back then and they did good on sandstone and dirt. I'd think G8 would be a better option for your truck since it is pretty heavy and you're in a warm climate.

Last night I ordered a set of Predator compound Azteks. AMain says they'll be here by Friday.

My tire collection is getting too large.

You and me both!

I'm interested to see what you think of the Predators. It seems that the tread design was meant for a softer compound.

We were talking about G8 vs Predator on the trails last Sunday. G8 is a better all-around rubber IMO. Predator is softer, but that hurts it when it is extremely hot outside or when the tread lugs are too tall. They roll over easily when side hilling or when trying to grab edges of obstacles.

I think because the Aztek lugs are so thick that lugs folding over wont be too much of a problem with them. It is definitely noticeable with some of the other tires like the Hyrax and Krawler though.

Trial by fire. Played around with the Azteks on my VRD for a bit before comp and they were hooking up very well. Ran the first course with my Tusks and had some traction issues so i figured id see how they did on the comp rig. One of the lines i had to winch with the tusks, i walked twice with the Azteks, even after i got them soaking wet on the second try. Im impressed. 20240817_113959.jpg

They look similar to old school Yokohama Geolanders mud tires
