Japan may have the major brands in RC but if you want anything custom here then you are way out of luck!!!
Believe it or not they've never even heard of liquid mask here and that's in the biggest RC stores in Osaka or Tokyo city and if you are after something like a pinion gear that is slightly odd sized then just forget about it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
The way of business in Crapan works like this (trust me I've found out the hard way).
Another every day example is Red Bull which actually became known and slightly popular here only from 2008 :shock: it was a huge struggle for the company too and they still aren't doing as well as in other countries in the world...now the biggest disappointment is the fact that after being probably the only buyer of the drink in my local convenience store for months ,after the drink became slightly more popular they cut the can size to about 2/3 of the original size and watered down the ingredients in it too ...I was like WTF??? Whats the reason??? The shops staff apologized and said its too expensive so not enough people buy it and its too strong for Japanese etc etc ... I was like "But what about the people who like this stuff for what it originally is or was ???" Well bad luck to them they better learn to live like the majority ...
There are thousands of chain western style bread bakeries in every suburb of Japan OK and a lot of bread which actually tastes great most the time , OK now try to buy Brown Bread and "thumbsup"good luck to you Ive never seen it in my 7 years here and just gave up looking ...
To put it simply ,in Japan consumer choice and preference is non existent its all about what the majority will buy so if you simply want a sandwich without margarine in it or in our case a odd sized RC part then you are way out of luck...
Sorry to be off subject here but I wish the RC community would finally realize and stop thinking that Japan is the leader when it comes to RC ...all it is, is a mass market mostly flooded with standards ,all the innovation still comes from the US"thumbsup"

I have been in discussion with BP hobbies for 5months now.
They claim to have the brass pinions in stock from a Korean source, but not on their site yet.

Get some emails and phone messages into Jim at BP.
He has the fr%^#%%^ things, but has terrible customer service skills.
He still has not replied to my last email to find out if he has priced them yet.
His last email said he physically has 50, brass, 8T and 9T pinions in 0.6M, for 2.0 and 2.3mm shafts (resp.).

Having tried other motors, I wore out the little black cross tubes that 2.5mm screws run through.
I replaced them with white, nylon spacers from Lowes. Local hardware carries them as well. About 3+mm ID and 4mm OD.
At lowes they come in small bags and are located in the screw aisle, in the metal pull out drawers.
These spacers do not have the little notches that fit into the holes, so they allow much more adjustment of the motor.
I fabbed different covers (opposite the motor side) that cover the Pinion/spur window. I fabbed them out of 1/4" Lexan.
The screws feed through the covers and into the motors.

Sent three emails to him this week (last one today).
All with different subject lines trying to get someones attention.
Sure would not order a high dollar item from that shop.
But they are the best lead I had.
Last I heard, they claim they ordered them and have them in stock.

Called and talked to Jim at BP hobbies. He said something about the parent company in Korea, where the orders come in from, only wants to see larege qtys of items added to his catalog at a time(WTF?). So they have put off adding any of the items received since July??
I literally said nothing on the phone until the silence got uncomfortable for him and he said he would try and get them to enter it Thurs night so it might be in there Fri or Sat.
Hmmmm. His customer service skills are really winning me over.
To me it sounds as if he is a small 3rd party, online, reseller, that does not have a physical store. It even sounds like the 2nd party he orders from controls his web site.

Pinion quote from them to me was around $1.50 ea. if I ordered 20 9t and 10t, plus $35 shipping.
The guy would only allow payment as a bank to bank transfer.
My credit union charges another $25 for that.
Kind of killed it.

If you could guarantee sales that's $6 a pinion ... honestly not bad for such an oddball part.
But ... will you just end up with a box of pinions and only sell four or five when push comes to shove.

BTW, the gears are brass, so they won't last as long if you are running a steel spur.
