Hey guys first off it's a pleasure being here best RC site ever.Im 55 and my second year in RC first crawler was redcat gen 8,I have run it to death in summer and maine winter still running very strong.Okay bought axial SCX III Jeep gladiator.i have taken it out twice and both times I get a faint clicking noise from transmission when going very slow can't really hear it if just running down a trail. But you can really hear it crawling over something,I can't find anything rubbing grinding or binding.I see the kit had probs with some gears that pin hole was square one side round on other .I'm sure they fixed before the gladiator I hope.couls it be mesh? Like I said second year in RC I hope I don't have to do a tear down don't feel to conf.but will try that little clicking noise is keeping me from enjoying my rig.could this ticking hurt my truck or gears or just go for it?.thanks guys hope to hear and be in loved.peace

I understand your concern, I am the same way about worrying about my RC cars. I would say if it is not performing poorly, just run it. Worse case it breaks, you will need to take it apart anyway to fix. Or, if you are really bothered by the noise like I would be, take it apart. Great learning opportunity. Repairing is really a must have skill for this hobby unless you are very rich. I enjoy working on them. Use the manual, watch youtube videos, enjoy the experience. Take pictures as you take things apart and use those pictures in reverse to put back together. Keep track of where you screws go. I try to loosely screw them back in the part I have removed so I know for sure where they go.

Greetings Tygger420.

I have a new Gladiator and it also had a faint clicking sound. Not very loud but certainly noticeable. It was rhythmic and seemed to be something "rotational" in nature. I did not investigate the source but after 3 good long runs the sound has stopped. I've read about several of the new SCX10 III's having this click. Others here may offer some advice to stop the clicking but mine went away on it's own. I'm going to assumes that the gears have worn in a bit and are playing together nicely now. Hope this helps.

I had a slight clicking in my Gladiator. I found that the rear portal gears were installed backwards. The pin in the gear should be in the side of the gear that had a round slot and not the square slot. I found all of gears in my transmission were installed correctly and it was not the cause of the click. I made sure to pack the transmission, axle diffs and portal gears with marine grease when I put it back together.

Here is a pic of the portal gears. You can check out my JT Gladiator build thread to see more pics and details of the gears.
