Pebble Pounder
First post here and first thing I'm going to do is say thanks to everyone. I've learned a lot from this forum. Definitely the place to go for Twin Hammers info. I spend most of my online RC time over at URC if I'm honest but this is the only other place I really keep coming back to. Anyway lets get on with the story......
Well I took the plunge and got a Twin Hammers about 3 weeks ago. I got a great deal from a good friend of a relative it turns out owns a well respetced RC firm here in the UK - RadshapeRC - and rights for quite a few RC mags etc. over here.
Having got back into RC last year I've really inspired by the vehicles in Ultra4 racing, desert racing, Trophy trucks etc. My build threads are over at URC but the photo Galleries are here Baja Bug, Clash 1, and EXOTrooper if you fancy taking a look. I also upload my vids to youtube so again, if interested you can look here. I've no experience of crawlers but they have a growing appeal to me so the Hammers seemed like an ideal way of addressing my growing interest in crawling and my love of off road speed.
I'm a big Star Wars fan, not a collector or anything but as a movie it blew my mind as kid and had a massive influence on my life. So this now influences my RC builds as well - see EXOTrooper for example.
This thread will document the journey my stock "Twin Hammers"takes to becoming a Star Wars themed "Emperor's Hammer".
So Here's the first picture with the only visible mod
The initial mods were as follows:
Grabbed the camera and took it out for spin

Lessons learned from the first run.
When I got the TW I decide I had to do a Boba Fett themed Hammer. The bonnet (hood for all the american's
) design just screams " I look like the front of Boba Fetts helmet you know." - well to me at least. See what I mean?
I think I have the panel designs pretty nailed as well. So I got some paint.
I'm happy with them given I'm limited to rattle cans. The green and the crimson are pretty good. But, the yellow is a bit bright so I intend to back it with black to tone it down a bit. The the whole thing will be sprayed with Matt Clear.
I ordered a new Turnigy Nanotech 4200 2S shorty pack (decision courtesy of info on here and sourced from hobbyking), a clear body and a set of rear sway bars.
Whilst waiting for the parts to arrive there was no way I was going to leave the "Emperors Hammer" to sit unused so off I went to one of the stream sections of a new bashing spot I found whilst out walking with my wife.

I didn't get too much of a run. The HPI ESC, which I thought I'd fixed after the last time it started playing up, finally went to meet it's "quite obviously not to bothered about quality" maker.
I've now replaced the ESC and motor with a WP-SC8 and a EZRUN 3400KV 4 pole and charged the Nano-tech shorty. The Emperor's Hammer is now sitting on my desk waiting for a chance to get out
Feedback welcomed and encouraged, particularly if you can help me come up with the best set up for the ESC - you know punch, drag brake etc. etc.
Thanks for reading.

A Long time ago in a home office/RC garage not that far away from any of you when you think of it in galactic terms......

The initial mods were as follows:
Removed stock motor and ESC (sold them for £50 - result!)
Placed what the Hulk would call "Punny LiPo" to one side (carefully, didn't want to hurt or scare the tiny thing)
Added 4000KV 4 pole HPI Flux
Added HPI Vapor Flux Pro ESC
Checked shift change servo as per guidance (it still went a bit wonky but another little tweak to the end points and problem solved)
Wedged in bigger battery (Nanotech 5800mah 2S LiPo 50C-80C Discharge)
Adjusted rear suspension to offset the bigger battery for now ( a temp "fix" until I grab an appropriate shorty from hobbyking)
Added Darth Vader

Lessons learned from the first run.
1. This thing is actually pretty damned tuff.
2. It desperately needs rear sway bars (I may add fronts too)
3. It desperately needs some thicker oil in the front diff. Something in the 30,000 to 50,000 range. I appreciate it's not going to be anything like locking the front diff but given the type of driving I do these days (and it may change) I don't wont to go as far as silly putty or a complete lock. Time will tell I'm sure.
4. THIS THING ROCKS. I LOVE it's scale looks and its just great fun to drive.
