Not exactly a n00b question: help pick a second crawler

Ok y’all, I just picked up a nice shinny new scx10 iii wrangler day before yesterday to get back into the hobby after a bit of a break. I had the original honcho and wraith (and even an xr 10) back in the day and absolutely love the honcho.

My original plan was to buy a honcho and a tf2 since I’ve always wanted to build one and live hardbodies, but ended up with the wrangler instead. I did order the tf2 kit, but I don’t know I’ll ever be able to complete it (I’m not the best finishing kits, I have a hard time coming up with electronics and my paint skills are lacking)

I really love the defender, my father had a camel trophy truck when I was a kid and I’ve wanted to replicate it if possible, but I don’t think it’s really something I’ll be able to do

I have a $600 budget for another rc car, but that also includes any parts/upgrades for BOTH cars and another battery for the new one (face charger and a shorty pack for the wrangler)

So right now I’m tempted to get a gen 2 honcho, or maybe order the tf2 (again). But I dunno.

Can y’all give me some pointers? I’d really appreciate it as I’m going into informational overload

If you really want to go with the Camel Trophy, I'd say do that. The more you get in to this hobby the more you're willing to do for it.

I think getting a trailfinder 2 chassis with a defender hardbody is a nice choice.
Painting hardbodies isn't terrible hard, there's prep work, sure, but the end result is really nice and rewarding.

If you already have the TF2, you could just buy a defender body and change out the body. I'm not entirely sure how the TF2 body mounting works, but it should work out pretty well.

Don’t sleep on the SSD trail king either. I don’t own it personally, but it is well regarded. And on paper it is a lot better equipped than any scx10.2, and in many ways, very comparable to it. I consider it a fully upgraded Scx10.2 out of the box.

$600 to spend to second crawler with battery, and upgrades to two crawlers.

A set of tyres, dual stage foams and wheels costs easily $150.
So... you really don't have more than $300 for a second crawler.

Tyres and dual stage foams is the most important upgrade you can do to any crawler.

After building and enjoying my 10.3 I also was looking for a 2nd rig. I have decided on the Capra. Could that be an option for you too?

Capra Kit: $330
Tires: $60
HobbyWing 1080: $40
Crawlmaster Sport: $20
ZOSKAY 35kg servo: $40
Spektrum SX107 micro servo: $15
RadioLink RC4GS v2: $60
CastleCreations BEC: $20
3S Shorty: $35
Total: $620

I’m weighing a wraith vs the Capra actually. I’ve had a wraith and loved it, but don’t know enough about the Capra to rule it out.
