Hey all,
purchased my 1st crawler last Saturday, so far I love this crawler but have a few questions.

  1. From day one 75% of the time regardless if i'm moving or not my front servo hums, is this normal?
  2. If you could offer up 2 easy upgrades what would recommend?
  3. Is there a site out there that lists local RC Crawler groups?
Thank you in advance for your advice "thumbsup"

what servo are you running?

some servos do hum

two things are best are good tires ( red dot rovers work really well )
and a good servo ( high torque ) or another option is metal lockers front, rear and center transmission if you dont already have them.

Hey Fallin,
I'm running running Losi MSX12 digi, everything else is 100% stock :) but not for long MUHAHAHA!! Thank you for the advice, its much appreciated.

Have you tried adjusting your steering trim? That sometimes worked on my trucks.
I'd say check in with your Local Hobby Shop about rc groups, their bound to have some info. Or you could check in the regional section in these forums.

Tried adjusting the trim and still the hum, I have to head out to modesto so ill have them check it out :) thank you very much"thumbsup"

squirel, your current questions have been answered many times over in the past, and likely your future questions also... there is pages upon pages of great reads in the section of the site. and this site will also host your local area groups too. I know reading takes time, but thats the best way to find stuff most of the time.

IMO your gonna have to upgrade and rtr very quickly as they have many shortfalls.

1. full size servo is a must, the stock one won't last long and is weak anyhow. I suggest a ht 645, no bec is needed
2. esc is next, the stock one has no drag brake or lipo cut off, micro sidewinder and tekin b1r are fans around here.
I suggest a mongoose system for you, it will be a esc and motor combo

3. motor will not last long, so be ready to replace that also if you get just a esc and not the mongoose
4.........best advice.....support the site, buy a star..these classified are your best friend.

In the long run if you get the itch, nothing will be stock except the axle and trans housings......so you may want to shop for a used mrc that already been upgraded with a good chassis, ect. It will be cheaper in the long run I promos you.

Yea I probably should have did a little more searching here, was just really excited about this lil guy. Was thinking about a used but...I usually learn by upgrading and getting into tearing them down and rebuilding. Thank you mucho for the complete list of upgrades, darnit you did all the work for me LOL!!! really glad you recomended what you did, otherwise, id be just buying stuff blindly. again...THANK YOU!!!

Thanks Geo, usually don't buy much from ebay, learned my lesson when I bout a knock off before, errrr maybe read the comments and the price was WAY too good to be true LOL!!! Well i'm officially a crack addict!

Hey all thank you so much for the advice, including using the search feature :). I'm going back to modesto hobby and see what they have in the recommendations you guys made, yea I have to start slow but over the next few months I should have a pretty sick crawler!

I started with a stock rtr myself and the best upgrade was getting a stock pro frame for it. I ordered the frame with the skid plate, shock arms, body post and I asked the seller how much for him to include a full set of links for the pro and it ended up costing me $32 shipped. I also ordered the front and rear link plates for the pro so it would be 4 link which was another $10. So for around $45 I turned my rtr into a semi pro:ror: but it made a huge difference I love it now:ror: you will need to get the wheel Widener too at some point if you want more information on the seller I can get his ebay store information for you

Also look at the Vendors section on this site as well, most of these parts/upgrades are developed and proven to work by the same guys you will chat with on this site. Most these parts you probably wont find at your LHS. PayPal will become very worth having......

Most of all READ BUILD THREADS!!!!! This is most important for new people. "thumbsup"

visited the vendors section, now from prev. advice, this relates to the Mongoose Mini BL system, does this system require Lipo? or will it work with cell based batts? Now on tires, have had a heck of time finding the Red Dot Rovers, everyone is on back order, is there another 1.9 tire that is decent to comp level?

I have never run my Mongoose systems on anything but lipo, don't know how they would perform with stick packs. As for tires, if you can't find the Rovers, the Pro-Line Chisels are a pretty good 2nd choice.

thanks for the reply papa, I was looking at the pro-line chisel but wasnt sure, yea the rovers are on back order everywhere, picked up 4oz weights for the front and 2 oz weights for the rear today, yea been hesitant with the lipo's, I have 2 stick batts I just picked up and caught a fully upgraded airsoft gun on fire with Lipo's LOL! I been trying to do research about the mongoose with stick batts but have no luck with answering that question :(

Modesto Hobby won't have any thing you really need, they can order anything you need tho. Biggest starter mods would be new Rover tires, full size servo and get all your weight down as low as possible, Ohh yeah don't forget the lipos.

OUCH! It happens, but is very rare. When I got back into RC, I resisted lipos for several months because of all the horror stories I had read. Once I started going to comps, I made the switch, and have never regretted it. Lipos are lighter, cheaper, and better. If you plan to get serious about comping someday, go ahead and switch over.

Due to budget reasons I ran the Losi claws that came with my MRC Pro and they work very well. these tires with the blue foams inside can be found very cheep, like on ebay for around $8-$10 a pair shipped w/ foams. part# Losb1480B "thumbsup"
