Aluminum bits in the suspension department. Steering mechanism is a cheapo chinesium set, that is already failing. I intend to make something stronger with some steel and silver solder. Progress so far:

My finger tips got tired of the small bolts after a while. So I made a new "wrench" out of al Iong m3 bolt. I can ever screw on a "cheater bar" onto the end.

Droop and full compression with the body balancing/dangling on some 123 blocks.

Im thinking of either the newer TRD colors, or that burnt orange color. Body still needs some work on the hood. I already have reinforced the body with some cut up styrene.

Did a little bit of work, testing out how the parts fit i ordered off of Aliexpress. Links wont be staying, at least not the rod ends. The ends are really tight right now, but will develop slop being metal on metal "brass"? I think i may modify or make new brackets for the link mounts on the chassis, so the bolts go into all the links horizontally.17164526725296339266254528992426.jpg17164526990369009133351264008033.jpg

Fitted the aluminum No¹ motor mount "hidden" to a 3:1 reduction unit, that is fed by an first gen Holmes revolver from back in the 2000's.17164528536843025625218944252632.jpgUnsure of kv numbers on the motor, but I'll run it on 3s most likely.

I was shy of space, and some of the chassis got in the way.17164528320313400199326410379153.jpg

Out came the dremmel and after a bit of "zip zip" sounds it looked like this.17164528071747653362801472769235.jpg

The HW 16bl30 ESC i got for this should handle this little piggie, i hope, otherwise ill try that 90a radiolink esc (can run on 4s) with something brushed (how many turns a motor should i get?) or the 1200kv 2 in 1 fusion system no gru? Anyone have any experience with either of these?

So a few days ago or so I stumbled upon this image of an interior inside the body. I wonderScreenshot_20230804_193918_Chrome (1).jpg
Would the interior fit over the cc-01 chassis?Screenshot_20230804_193934_Chrome (1).jpg
Now the search for that begins.

Looks like a good fit, whatever that interior is. It's not a FJ interior though if that matters to you.

No, not recently. I just grabbed it off the "shelf" and took a gander. 1731266407699275128989064515773.jpg
What's holding the build back is me being lazy, well, that, and I got frustrated with the steering, as I gave up on that department, really!

I have an alloy bellcrank in it and it's "notchy", as in it seems to stick and almost have a return to center function! It's also already stripped, and has 1/4 travel before engagement. I threw the plastic set out, so I cant do anything! I really want to just make one (steering mechanism)out of steel and be done with it.

Otherwise it needs a little bit of body work, paint and then figuring out how to mount the body without bodyposts poking through the top.

Understandable. But, get on it! Lol. Heck I probably have a stock steering set up if you want it. Message me and I can send it to you if you just want to get it running in the meantime.

I figured out the notchy-ness, it comes from the steering tierods binding up against the alloy skid. Needs "machining" with a dremmel in the area that's marked red on both sides. 20241110_203625.jpg
When there's some weight in the rig pushing the suspension arms up, or down, depending on testing orientation, the steering action works fine. Shocks are a bit too long i guess, about 5mm.20241110_203712.jpg so at full droop it will still have the driveshaft oscillation from the dogbone.

Did a bunch of garage cleanup, sorting through crap to toss/donate/etc. Clearing off the top of my workbenches, and packing/putting thing where they belong.

Quick measurement determined the stock cc01 drive shaft is too short for that body so that went into the spares bin and I just have to pull something else out that'll work till then.

I still need to power up the esc and questionable kv motor to determine wheel speed on 2 and 3s, otherwise, I think I'll be lazy and slap the 2in1 1200kv Hw system with a bigger pinion and call it a day?

What's everyone else run 🏃‍♀️ in theirs ?

The CC01 drive shafts come in two sizes. One for the shorter wheelbase trucks such as the Pajero, Jeep, Mu etc and and longer driveshaft for the longer wheelbase CRV, Touareg and FJ Cruiser etc. if you can find the stock Tamiya longer shaft you’ll be set. I like to make my own indestructible drive shaft using two Jato half shafts.
