Ok guys, this is going to be a lot and just want to apologize in advance haha.

I live SE of Charlotte, NC and we vacation on the regular at the NC coast line. So I am looking for a basher here at home and something I can drive on the fine sand we have here on the coast. Growing up in my younger years, I was always a Traxxas fanboy even though i never owned a RC. A few years back I was going to buy one, so I went to local hobby shops just to see what they sold and parts available. I thought the SCT's were freaking awesome. I loved the Slash 4x4. Axial was another brand that is sold here close to home and I noticed the EXO terra, which I really liked. It had the SCT look, it was 4x4, and it had the wheels out like a buggy. All things i liked. I thought that was good to help keep some sand out of the body and electronics. Though now for some reason i see that Axial stopped making it and I haven't figured out why:???:. Now I have started looking at the Axial Yeti, Bomber, and Score along with still looking at the slash. The ground clearance for the yeti and bomber are better then the slash. I LOVE the way the bomber looks, but It seems to me that the servo and steering links on the solid front axles of the bomber would be easily broken for bashing and ingesting sand on the coast. The Yeti seems like a good choice and possibly axial's "new Exo Terra", but I have heard that they aren't that durable and break until you sink a lot of metal upgrades to them. Then there is the Score which I haven't researched a lot on except for with the IRS and rear axle it is a true scale SCT, and it needs the metal upgrades too. What is your guys opinion these models and Axial in general vs the Slash 4x4?

If you are looking for the speed and jumping characteristics of a 4x4 buggy, get the Slash. The Yeti and Bomber will disappoint you there.

If you are looking for a high-speed stunt truck, look to the Arrma Nero.

The Bomber can crawl, but is out-of-the-box slow. My rtr Yeti is great on the rocks and trails in low gear, and can do 30+ mph on the flats in high gear. I have not broken anything yet, but I do not drive it like it is near-indestructible like many do.

Sand and moisture are going to be problems; I never run in more than an inch of water, but I have switched to waterproof servos and rx having lost two servos over the last year to water. And I sealed the wheels, to keep the water out of the foams.

The stock Axial fasteners are very rust prone; I have to use Corrosion-X on every exposed bit of metal on the truck. But, even my son's Traxxas Summit shows signs of rust.

I hope that helps.

Do not get an Axial to bash. Even though they market go-fast rigs they just can't take abuse without dumping tons of money into them.

If you want a basher look at Arrma or Traxxas and be done with it.

When you buy a vehicle for more than one purpose you make compromises and it's usually not good at either of your intended purposes.

If you are looking for a basher for high speeds and jumps in an open area traxxas is the way to go. The axial trucks are designed for trails with rougher terrain. The yeti is more of a trail basher. Good for higher speed trial running. In an open area the yeti is kinda slow compared to a traxxas vxl and not nearly as durable. Axial is focused on scale looks over pure performance. If a basher is what you want I would go with a stampede 4x4. Then when you get bored with it get a bomber or scx10 for the trails. I have yet to see a rig that is both basher and trail truck and perform each one well.
