New Spider

I had a stupid idea. Do a portal delete to lower and narrow it, and use standard GS02 rear links to bring the rear wheels forward. If possible, cut the rear wheel openings in a way that makes more of a standard arch. Downsize the tires. Basically kit-bash it into looking more like a stock Jeep. It wouldn't exactly be cheap due to the axle components you'd have to buy.

Anyway that's my stupid idea.

Edit: actually, anyone with a Gmade BOM could basically do this for free by trading parts between the two trucks, not to mention you'd end up with a stretched wheelbase BOM on portals, which sounds pretty cool!

You could do that, but at a glance, it seems you would lose all the things that make it different from the rest of the GS02 line, no?

Personally, I would be inclined to find a different transmission to swap in. I am not a fan of how high the motor sits. It's too bad the front pumpkin is offset passenger side. It's opposite to an F10 axle. A vfd swap would have been cool, if it could have been shoe horned in there.

Yes, absolutely. Not to mention it would probably be less capable :lmao:.

I was just thinking if you changed all of those things it would get you pretty close to what the Axial CJ7 is, but based on a Jeep from a newer generation. Not much reason to do it besides that fact that nobody else probably will, but that's part of the reason it appeals to me.

So far it seems like a decent rig. Received mine a week ago and got it put together pretty quickly.

I'll post more tonight or if anybody wants any certain pics of stuff I can.

Looks sweet. Like the tread pattern on those tires. Pics with the body on it? Also pics of the portal axles?

Body is almost finished, I haven't decided if I want all the decals on it or not. It's painted with color change paint red-gold. I didn't expect to have it in a week from South Korea, ordered it as soon as it was available. Still waiting on the rest of the electronics for it and the LEDs for the light bars.

Nice looking rig. Thanks for the photos.

I love my two Sawbacks as well! People, most famously Harley Designs, bash GMade to no end. I have absolutely beat on my two Sawbacks for years and have only bent or broken leaf spings. Sure, they aren't the most capable rigs, but they are on leaf springs. And they do have some silly features like wheels on the skid plate which are easily remedied by removing those.

No worries. "thumbsup" You know I had to give you a ribbing for that!

While I thoroughly enjoy Harley's content, I do find it a little lame that he glazes over Gmade products like they aren't worth talking about. The GS02F is an amazing machine. The fit, finish and quality of the plastics is second to none. The brand has a very loyal following. Yes,there are places they could do better but that could be said for all brands. I think the thing i love the most is that they are doing kits the way they want to... no copying everyone else or rebranding products with their name. I truly hope that they are in the game for a long time and that others finally take notice of this gem of a company.

It probably stems back to GMade kind of starting out as a joke of a company and then moving onto leaf springs which he hates. He’s not the only one that has said the Sawback and GS02 aren’t durable, but my GS01 Sawback has been bullet proof like I’ve said many times.

I first discovered Harley back when the Gmade GOM was released. I was enjoying my GOM and wanted to see what other people thought, and what I found was a video of him looking through the contents of the GOM kit just trying to find things to be critical of. He complained about the way the tires smelled, I'll never forget that.

With my birthday a couple of months away I’m planning on making this my 6th Gmade rig. Liking everything I see so far. Some people are gonna bash on the brand and that’s fine. Everyone has a right to feel how they feel. The building phase is my favorite part, and anyone who’s built a Gmade knows they’re fairly more involved than an Element, Axial, etc. It’ll be built with the optional zero overdrive gears as I did with my Buffalo kit. My opinion is that the high gear is far too fast to run overdrive and likely contributing to the ring and pinion failures some have experienced. Besides, I don’t think the advantages of running overdrive are worth the disadvantages. Just how I feel so don’t beat me up for my opinion.

I've heard about ring and pinion failures so I was kind of holding my breath when I stepped up to brushless on my Buffalo-based prerunner. It's doing 4000kv on 3S now, which is a fairly brutal amount of power and speed compared to the intended use, but so far so good! I have to imagine those failures are more likely due to isolated manufacturing defects.

I've only had 1 to fail. I got it in a bind. I planned ahead and got 2 extra plus a set of axles just in case. Great truck. I gave it to my brother.
