New HPI Venture to debut December 9th 2024!

Well since I have been sucked into the mini blackhole, looks like I'll be picking up the body at least. The lil' rig doesn't look too bad. I've never owned a Venture, so I have no idea how their quality is.

I'm just bitter that the 1/10 Venture is getting no love from HPI since I loved that rig so much. Only reason I sold it was because HPI was or did go under at that point and I wasn't sure if parts would even be available. These days you can only get the 1/10 Venture with the the absolute disaster of a body called the Wayfinder. I did just do a search though and realized the SBK is back for $200. Not too bad of a deal. But that awesome FJ body is gone. 😭

This is a cool looking mini that seems to be done well, but it is complicated so there are lots of areas for potential problems. And the price is lofty, especially for the $200 brushless outrunner version. For $200 I'll buy the 1/10 Venture SBK kit instead of this brushless mini.

Plus, the 1/18 elephant in the room is the TRX-4M. There is also the Redcat Ascent-18, which doesn't have the aftermarket or following of the TRX-4M, but that rig is significantly cheaper.

I think the value is there. The brushless combos for these little things are expensive. The Traxxas brushless setup is $120. Many of the brushless setups for SCX24s are also close to that price as well.

Will I buy one? I dont know. I got my son a TRX4M a couple months ago and it is soooo much better than the SCX24 it replaced. If I decide to get something for myself or my daughter that is the same scale, maybe I'll grab one of these if the reviews are good.

As much as I like HPI, Redcat just released their ascent 18 and they are comparable. It does not have a 2speed but does include bearings. No brushless option but at $150 they are the same price.

Yes, here is a link to the Redcat Ascent-18 Scout II. Nice body, but the chassis looks like their monster truck and other Ascent-18.

The mini RC fad can (and will) crash again...

This is different. In the past, there was only one or two brands of truck to pick from at a given time and there was not much (if any) aftermarket support. The SCX24 somehow got tons of companies making upgrades and with Traxxas hopping on the bandwagon, I dont think the mini/micro fad is going to die off soon. Obviously HPI and Redcat feel it is still growing.

There were times in the past where many companies were competing in the mini scale at one time - Associated, Duratrax, LC Racing, Losi, etc. It was with bashers and racers rather than scale crawlers though. Time will tell, but minis and micros never had staying power before and I don't see that changing. Sticking around for even 10-years isn't something like 1/10 scales that are always prevalent. I think Axial is holding onto and milking the SCX24 with all they got because they don't have much else at the top of the game right now.

I was only talking about crawlers. I really dont pay much attention to the other stuff.

Traxxas will run the same truck for 20+ years so even if everyone else stops, the TRX4m will probably be around a while.

Traxxas is always different. They do things differently and their success is on a different level.

I see HPI has recently released all sorts of goodies for the 1/18 Venture.

Would be nice to see the 1/10 venture get some attention in similar forms, mostly the HD overdrive gears and some HD cvds since Ascender cvds are getting hard to find.

You guys are no fun. Seriously, no Back-to-the-Future fans? The black one is Marty's dream truck! I'm getting the black one, obviously in the "Flux" version.

As a side note, when my wife got her first electric car, it was a 2013 Fiat 500e, in black. The top speed when I floored on a long stretch of freeway? 88mph indicated--engineers at Fiat were OBVIOUSLY Back-to-the-Future fans.

I got it, am a bit a fan of 80s movies as well, just not into smaller scale at the moment. Mine just sit collecting dust and for me it's not even fun spending money on parts to install just to then put it back on the shelf. I can do that with 10th scalers.

I've never secondly verified it but I think deloreans topped out at 81mph. Not sure if it was part of the joke. It was the era of 55mph highways and crap tons of emissions gadgets sucking down horsepower so seems plausible.

It's a generic Toyota that's been done to death so a huge "Womp womp" to me.

The more I see this rig, the more appealing it becomes, but it's a mini. I barely touch micro and minis. My TRX-4M sits mostly on my table and that truck is super scale and very fun.

Especially when some mini parts cost as much if not more than some 1/10th upgrades!

I'm sure the DMC-12 can go more than 81MPH, but it's not going to get there quickly. That car is a porker.

It's not even the extended cab really, but I collect all the black '80s Toyota trucks--I regret selling my Trailfinder version. Guess not a big enough fan to buy another--it's mostly the re-painting I'm averse to.

I hear you on the cost of minis and mini parts. I think I will get this one though and maybe 2 mini LMTs to have Monster Jam in the house, but the last small scale car I owned was the FMS 1/12 Jimny.

At 88 mph, the movie DeLorean can travel through time There is a guy around my area that drives a replica DeLorean around only on Holidays, should talk to him at the coffee joint if he's doing his cruise on MLK day.
