Hello everyone.

I have been wanting to do a build thread on my twin hammer for quiet a while, I just haven't had the time. I bought my hammer brand new over a year ago, and I have had it set up many different ways over the course of the past year. It has pretty much turned into my trail/basher rig, but I still drive it on a local 1/10 scale outdoor track on occasion. Well I guess I better start from the begin. Last June I discovered this little forum site call rccrawler, that opened up an entire rc world that I never even knew existed! It spurred some new life into my twin hammer and soon formed my scale addiction!

The first real mods that I did we're....
-blue monkey upright tower
-85mm Gmade XD shocks
-blue monkey rear trailing arms, single shocks.
-103mm Gmade XD piggy back shocks
-Hobbywing 80a wp Ezrun esc
-Tacon 3650 3500kv brushless motor
-HiTec 645mg steering servo
-Turnigy 4200mah 2s shorty lipo pack
-RPM 2.2 revolver crawler wide wheels, w/0ld school 2.2 Proline switch tires
-rear sway bars, and vaterra aluminum hubs
-everything else is stock.

Ran this set up for a month, and primarily drove on a 1/10 outdoor track. Defiantly found the weak points. The blue monkey upright tower would bend almost every time I took a hard crash. Smoked the Hitec servo, the shift servo, and the stock steering rack. I had to limit the front shocks a couple of mm to prevent breaking the front dog bones.

Then I decided to turn it into a crawler/ trail rig. Bought the hot racing steering rack and was completely disappointed. It bound up worse than the stock did! So I took it to the next level. I just took the entire left A-arm, driveline ,knuckle and hubs and moved it to the right side, and vice versa! Mounted the servo upfront with a custom mounting bracket, and used some traxxas slash turnbuckle links for steering links, it worked great at low speeds, but I had terrible wheel hop at full steering lock, and some driveline alignment issues at full droop.
- Changed a few things..
- new painted body
- traxxas red turnbuckles
- Axial 8 hole 1.9 beadlocks
- pitbull rock beast 1.9 tires
- solar d772 steering servo
- locked tranny in low gear.

Ran it this way for a couple of months. Wanted to change up the front end again! Changed the servo back to the stock location, and added Derwood DD steering kit. Installed the DD on to the GCM upright shock tower. I like the GCM tower, but I didn't keep it to long, it was to heavy for my track bashing needs, seemed to work better for trailing and crawling! (Kind of wish I would of kept it!)

Then changed it back to a track basher rig. Changed the front end back to stock. Kept the Derwood steering kit installed, I installed the stock front suspension, and relocated the battery into the chassis.
Added some new parts!
- Gearhead 1.9 Sixer beadlock wheels
- locked the tranny in high gear.
- Tacon 3660 4000kv brushless motor.

This is pretty much how it is now! Moved the battery back to stock location. I recently installed Sir Irie products steering rack and top plate- which is awesome by the way! My Derwood had some worn out bushings. I was suffering from very bad bump steer. Here is a list of new stuff I have done to date....
- Carter Fab and Machine body panels
- MG200 85mm shock tower- this thing is bombproof.
- RC4wd rear trailing arms
- Sir Irie steering rack
- turnigy 390dmh mini shift servo
- locked up rc 1.9 iconic SLW beadlock wheels, agile beadlocks
- RC4wd 1.9 TSL boggers super swamper tires
- VP hubs and knuckles

More to come!! Thanks for looking!

Looks great! Have you considered the anti sway bars for the rig? I run the medium bars front and rear and it really helps the high speed handling. Same with the GCM rear axle truss. The rig will not squat down under acceleration like it did previously, which is a huge improvement for stability.

Thanks for the compliments and suggestions. I have the rear sway bar installed. No front installed. I wasn't sure about that GCM axle truss, but I think I might give it a try. The rear sway bars defiantly eliminated any torque twist I had. "thumbsup"

Picked up some vaterra gears for my hammer! Finally got them installed this evening. Replaced the bearings inside the tranny too! The transmission is butter smooth now. We will see how hold up, time will tell. Has anybody tried these gears?

A little update of my twin hammer....

I pulled my Hobbywing 80a Ezrun Esc out and installed into my scx honcho project rig. I also pulled off my Lockup Iconics 1.9 with TSL boggers. Sold the boggers, I like the way they look, but the tires rubbed on the chassis and it would roll over a lot easier. The wheels are installed on my honcho project as well. Purchased some new Lockup 1.9 wheels with rock crushers 2 tires. I'm liking the handling a lot more at high speeds, no rubbing issues, and descent on the rocks too!

Hobbywing has a new line of speed controls that just came out called QuicRun. I figured I give the 60a non sensored a try! I had my doubts on how it would work! Once it was in my hands, I was actually pretty impressed. Just solder on your battery connector and ready to rip. Noticed a smoother acceleration, with no top end loss, and still smooth on the rocks in first gear! Fairly inexpensive as well, 45$ or so. I really want to save up my pennies and buy a Tekin Roc 412 3100kv, and possibly a Castle MMP? Not really sure what esc though?

Order some new parts, new servo, some interior scale upgrades, and some new skins! Will updated again when parts start showing up!

What tires are in the first few pictures

I think you are referring to the proline switch 2.2 tires. I think Proline has discontinued these tires though!
Hey Irie just wanted to let you know that your steering kit is holding up well. I put it through the ringers every time I drive it too! Nice product!

Reading owns you.

Its not my fault I never learned to read
can't believe I missed that....

Thanks glad to here

I also want this part #. Went to the bottom to ask and someone beat me to it.
I used traxxas turnbuckles for a slash! I believe the part number TRA3737 for the red ones, and TRA3737A for the blue ones. The are 39mm in length. The only thing is the rod ends supplied with these turnbuckles don't work with the vaterra. I bought a set of stock vaterra rod ends and drilled them out. They work great, I haven't bent one yet! Thanks for looking!

Hello everyone.

Been a while since I have done an update on the ole Twin Hammer. I have been swamped at work and moved into a new place a month ago, so it took me a while to get the rc shop set up. Sold a bunch of rc stuff in the mean time, and bought a bunch of new stuff for my TH.

New stuff like a motor, esc, servo, added a winch, some light and BEC. Then I needed to upgrade my remote and receiver to a 4ch remote. Added some new scale items, fuel cell, hpi mini trophy truck interior cockpit, passenger driver/head, radiator, exo light bar, MT heads beadlock rings, and some new skins by freqeskinz.

Tekin ROC412 3100kv and MMP, first timer on both these products. Worth every penny. This motor is awesome

JR servo DS8711, 400 oz/in. @ 6v. Bought this servo used from a fellow member here on the forums. Has amazing torque.

Spektrum DX4C remote and receiver with AVC. The remote works well, bUt I'm not completely sold on the AVC mode, the info in the manual is really vague, so I disengaged the AVC mode for the mean time, until I can figure it out?

Started installing the electronics and how you say! "10lbs of shit in a 5lbs bag" what a mess of wires!

Took me a while to get all the wires routed and fabricated a small bracket to mount the esc switch and light switch.

I'm pretty stoked with how everything turned out. This motor and esc absolutely flys on 3s, and is smooth as butter on the low speeds too. Might be switching to 3s the fun factor just went way up.

Love the evolution on your Twin!

Lots of inspiration!

Thanks for the compliment Tomster! Its kind of funny but, it was your TH build that gave me the idea and inspiration to turn the fuel cell into a BEC holder. I really like your TH build, everything is installed super clean! That front servo mount is killer! Any updates with your TH!
Luke

Yeah! Awesome evolution! So blue monkey shock plate, then gcm, then mg200. Interesting. You like it better than the gcm?
And you moved the battery forward, but then put it back. Just better balanced that way? Or for some other reason? Have you tried the one inch longer extension kit yet?
Thanks !!

I will update soon! I will start at the first official G6 here in Europe in October, meanwhile we did some small comps here and i really love this little rig!

I bought a second one without electronics and a broken front shaft pin. currently im rebuilding the entire rig, will use it as a test mule i want to start a thread on that as well!

Thanks for the compliment Turtlejon!

Yeah the blue monkey was nicely made , but the shock towers would bent every time I crashed. I did like having different choices of mounting holes for the shocks on the tower.

Then I tried the GCM. Very nice part, but when I added the battery up front, it was terrible at jumping, extremely nose heavy. At the time I owned this part, I wasn't into crawling, I was more track bashing with it, so jumping was important to me. The GCM towers seemed to be more designed to improve the TH on the rocks. I did manage to bend one the tower hoops inward on hard crash too. I also didn't like the fact I had to limit my shocks, to prevent the dog bone from popping out.

Stumbled upon a TH thread about the MG200 shock tower. At the time he was still making all different length of tower, check it out.
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/vate...-upright-front-shock-tower-chassis-brace.html

I absolutely love my MG200 shock tower, built for 85mm shocks, this tower can take a beating, and I haven't bent it yet! It only weighs 2oz, so with the battery in the stock position and the spare removed! This thing flys though the air nice and flat!

I did try the blue monkey +1 trailing arms, didn't seem to help me at higher speeds! Better on the rocks though! I know this my sound stupid to some people but I didn't like the way it made the look. The rear trailing arms were so long but the front end look so short, out per portion. Didn't really give them much of a chance! Sold them! Would of looked sweet with some 2.2 on it, and some bigger rubber! Hmmm??

Thanks for looking!

That's some real good info there. Thanks.
I've been running ther derwood shock upright. It also bends with high speed crashes. I think most guys are not running at high speeds so they have not noticed or said anything about it. I've been wanting to go go back to stock front shocks for my high speed th. But maybe I'll take a look at the mg200. Thanks for the quick link.
