Losi Baja Rey 1/10th 4WD RTR desert truck

The "3" in "EC3" means it's a 3-mm bullet. You might be getting a small voltage drop across the EC3 connector under high-current conditions, when the resistance increases, and not realize it.

That would would make sense but in reality they are 3.5mm.

I converted the ec3 to deans on my Rey. My dedicated 2s sct's all use ec5's as the deans plugs get hot or unplug too easily on a crash.

im not running interior. and im not running an adaptor. I shortened the esc cables so that the batt cables are actually going straight into the hole.

there is maybe a half inch of batt cable between the access plate and the hole where the ec3 used to be.

Understood. Thanks for the detail. BTW, I'm not far from you in Ann Arbor.

I just measured the male (bullet) connector at just over 3.5 mm, so it looks like you are right. I got the 3 mm from Horizon's site.

Have your found a solid current rating for Deans Ultra Plugs? I've seen ratings from 40 to 50 A.

Pretty sure they are rated at 50. Not sure how they rate them though. Probably continuously because they easily handle more then that.

Can anyone please tell me the size of the opening into the battery compartment and the dimensions of the battery compartment itself? I'm trying to figure out the size the largest pack that will fit.

Thanks.

Dang it! About 6 more packs run through it and the rear pinion bearings are shot... again! I either need to buy a bunch of them, or better yet, it's probably time to have Dlux do their big bearing mod.

After having the center diff locked for those 6 packs, I can say that I do like the way the truck drives in loose dirt better. It's much easier to "steer with the rear" now, so it doesn't end up on its roof so much. It can also drive right over tree roots in the park that were getting it stuck previously (not trying to rock crawl with it, just a couple 2"-3" tall roots in a low-ish speed turn, these ones were causing the truck to flip ass-over-tea-kettle if going any faster.) Obviously, the truck is easier to flip when coasting through a turn on asphalt, but it does okay if you are hard on the throttle. I'm certain that the locked center diff is a big contributor to the rear pinion bearing failure since it sends full power through the wheels with traction, all the time... so much so, that it will do unanticipated wheelies (and even backflip) if you're buried in the throttle and the tires find traction. I think I'll try to reduce the punch setting on the ESC to tone that down.

The Promodeler 215v3 servo is performing as I hoped, never lacking speed or power for what I need it to do. It does have enough power to turn the wheels towards the ground and throttle back onto all 4 if you land on your side, which has already saved me from a couple "walks of shame" to go grab my truck.

The Losi light bar meant for the Baja Rey (really meant for the Rock Rey?) requires just a bit of trimming of the windshield frame on the cab to make it fit without interference. It's not nearly as bright as my son's 6" Proline light bar, but his cost twice as much and is run on 2s as opposed to mine plugged into the 6v receiver. For $20, I guess it's alright.

I'm still loving this truck. The Baja Rey's performance/handling is more in line with what I really wanted from RC's when I made the switch from NiCd/NiMh powered electrics to Nitro years ago, but I always missed the simplicity of electrics. I think the Baja Rey on 3s is better than any of our old nitro's in every way!

why don't you come race your Baja rey at wrcr then?

I don't have a Baja Rey yet. I'm looking hard at the Baja and Rock Rey, though. One of those is likely to be my next RC vehicle. I'm leaning toward the Rock Rey in order to be able to cross rougher terrain.

come check out Washtenaw rc raceway on the 4th. you can see my Baja rey in action. bring along any race vehicles you got and come out and race! "thumbsup"

the Baja rey can go just about through anything.

Got my baja rey last week. Ran two 3s packs through it so far. Bent the top links and cracked the body a bit, but it looks better for the battle scars. Looking forward to further upgrades.

Same here. I just nutted up for the Metal Concepts RC Losi Baja Rey 3rd member Truss kit. It was 49.95, but comes with the bearings. I think this should be the final cure!

The bearings are 5x11, the same size used in Axial AR60 axles. Better than stock, I suppose, but a 5x13 inner bearing would've been nice. Anyway the rest of the truss looks rock-solid; it doesn't just bolt onto the axle, it clamps around it too.

@fyrstormer

Does the Metal Concepts third member need to be shimmed like the stock part? If it solves the rear-pinion problem (with or without shims), it will be worth the price.

What's the best solution for the front at this time?

@fyrstormer

How do you like the Pro-Line Baja T/A tires on your Baja Rey and SCBE? Would you recommend them over the stock tires? How does the OD compare to stock?

any off the shelf sct tire is shorter than stock.

it also depends on what terrain your running on.

I use proline primes for street and on a well taken care of clay track like clubhouse.

for looser dirt on a hardpacked surface, I just stuck with panther raptors or proline holeshots. a good tire for offroad allaround is proline bowties but.. not sure if you can get them new anymore.

be sure to get scte rims from de or sct rims from losi.
