Losi Baja Rey 1/10th 4WD RTR desert truck

Without having the exact dimensions handy, the Protrac wheels you listed would suck the wheels IN compared to stock, Slash rear/4x4 pushes them out a couple mm's. The protrac wheels have positive offset meant to pull the wheels back to their stock location when running protrac arms (which are something like 10mm wider than stock) on a Traxxas slash, I'd imagine they'd probably be quite a bit too narrow for the BR. I'm still all about the Yeti SCORE SLW wheels with either a .225 or .185 hub.


Thanks. What tires have you used that do not rub with the Yeti SCORE SLW wheels?

I'm in complete agreement on the when/hub combo. My Baja Rey project isn't complete (I've been so busy these past few months with my boats), but I'm also going with the Yeti SCORE wheels & .185 hubs.

However...instead of the Pro-Line BFG KO2 tires, I'm going with the Pro-Line BFG Baja T/A KR2, which are more accurate to a TT race truck (in the 2015 Baja 1000, the top 11 trucks were all running this tire). Right now, I'm just awaiting the painter to finish the custom job on the Raptor body.

You know those tires are only 4.30" tall right? The stock Baja Rey tires are more like 4.75" tall.
 
I've run the yeti wheels with the stock BR tires, the taller/narrower Axial BFG KR2's, the wider RC4WD Baja Claws, and a pair (rear only) of Panther paddles. Fit is definitely tight when going taller or wider, but close enough to only need the slightest trim at the back of the front fender. I put details/pics somewhere in this thread.

In regards to them being smaller than the stock tires, that's ok...visually, they should look more accurate...plus, I know I won't have to worry anymore about rubbing the body under the 'hood', or the top of the bed 'fenders'. Also, by going with the .185 hubs (as opposed to the .250 hubs), I don't have to worry about rubbing the front/rear fenders. As for the tire diameter, close...while Pro-Line states 4.3", they're actually 4.4" (but, I'm not about to quabble over .1" difference).

That being said, I do plan on a "visual inspection" before gluing the tires to the wheels...and, if I really dislike the look, I have 2 other tires in mind. However, before that takes place, I have to finish customizing the wheels - I'm trying to make them look as close to the Method 105 wheels they're based on (yup, that involves painting them...lol).

SLW= super light weight

It's was originally coined by Vanquish Products, but is now largely a generic term for removeable 6 bolt hubs of the same bolt pattern. Vanquish makes hubs down to .225" that use 4-40 machine screws, LockedUpRC makes .185" with 4-40 or 3mm thread, SSD makes a "zero offset" that is only slightly bigger than a .185" and uses 2.5mm thread (they make them with built in rotors too!) You can get as small as a .225"(ish) from Chinese manufacturers that also use 3mm thread. As much as I like the SSD's, the heads of the 2.5mm screws are prone to pulling through plastic wheels like the Yeti SCORE's. On that same note, I still think it's ridiculous to put 4-40 hardware on a car that is otherwise 100% metric... but I ended up with VP hubs anyway. The .185 hubs that LockedUp RC makes are, essentially, under "licence" by Vanquish. Vanquish has authorized LockedUp RC to produce this additional size.

Post pics of your truck with the shortcourse tires on it. I have put them on mine before and they looked small to me.

Yes. From what I understand, the stock wheels are, essentially, the equivalent of .250 (depending on the offset of the wheel, itself).

I have the exploded diagrams for the BR but they are not 100% complete. Having stripped down my car for an overhaul a few months ago I found myself putting it back together last night and realised there are quite a lot of similar but different screws that are not part of the exploded diagram in my manual.
Is there a full breakdown out there?

It seems pretty complete, but I don't doubt that there might be some things missing, though. The ring gear in the rear axle is not even shown!

Thanks. Yes I have that but it is quite a long way from complete. In particular I have bunch of 6mm and 8mm countersunk screws and cannot remember which go where. Some trial and error beckons!

Thanks again. I bought those 0.185" hubs and some Yeti Score wheels. That setup has 0.082" more backspacing than the factory Raptor wheels. I need to take more detailed measurements of the wheel widths, but preliminary measurements show that the factory Raptor wheels are roughly 0.025" wider than the Scores. So, you were right, the new setup should pull the wheels/tires in a little bit more than the factory wheels.

That's outstanding to know...thanks for the info. I still haven't finished mine, as I need to finish painting the wheels...but, that's the exact wheel/hub combo I'm planning on using.

Right now, I'm in Vegas. I brought the BR with me...but, I also brought 4 of my boats. The person custom-painting the new BR Raptor body is also in Vegas, and should have the body finished before I leave. If so, in addition to posting photos in my build threads, I'll post at least one in here.
