LNC Electronics Problems

Just got a new Losi Lnc, which i have been looking at for a while now. About 5min into the first run, the servo started twitching and i lost all control of the servo. The battery is a freshly charged Venom 6s 3000mah Nimh so there is no problems with that and the esc is set for Nimh. While trying to figure out what was causing the servo malfunction, the truck started to shut itself down completely. When it turned back on the lights would be dim and flickering and I had no control over anything. It seems to only shut down and malfunction under load (when turning on an incline under power). I put a different servo in it and the problem persisted so its not the servo and I unplugged the lights and it was still happening. Came to the conclusion that it must be a faulty esc. I have set it on all the different modes and that didnt change anything so I left it on crawler mode and as I said, its set for the Nimh. Has anyone else had or heard of a problem like this? I am trying to figure out what it would be so that I can contact Horizon Hobby, even though it will probably take forever to get the parts

Thanks for reading everyone

6S Nimh?!? seriously...you should read the manual. stock LNC esc wont take more than 2S, so I could imagine what happened.

6S Nimh?!? seriously...

C'mon man, 6 cell Nimh. 6 cells in series. 6S. 7.2 volts. ...seriously...

Sorry, I've got nothing more to add other than it seems you've narrowed it down to the ESC, and emailing or calling Horizon should be your next step. I'm under the assumption the truck should work fine without an additional external BEC for the speed controller, but there's the chance it would fix everything. It's also good to have one no matter what, so consider the Castle BEC.

It can only handle a 2s Lipo but up to a 7s Nimh.

The BEC would have been my second guess so ill play around with it for a bit and see if anything changes. Ill have to look into a new BEC too. Thanks for the help EeePee

(smacking self in back of head) gheez, dunno what i was thinking. should have woke up a bit more before posting that.

It happens to the best of us!"thumbsup"

I powered the servo and lights through a reciever pack and didnt have any problems with it so it was definetly the BEC. Took it back to the hobby store and they threw a new esc in it and they said it's working fine, i just need to go pick it up.

My brothers AX-10 is having similar problems but we think its the Tx/rx. Guess we got the duds of the bunch.

Just a quick note.. mine acted similar, was told is was battery then servo then this that and the other.. besides you need to upgrade from stock servo to something with more pizzazzz my issue was the wires were disconnecting on my esc and caused the glitch.. some times it would be stearing other times lights and throttle ... just food for thought make sure your connections are good and well soldered..

Sorry didn't read previous post! Nothing might be wrong with esc just open and confirm the wires are well contected! They may be sucking money from you ...

Thanks for the info. I have the crawler here now and they did everything for free since it was only ran for a little while before the problems started (it didnt even see outside). The problem was the bad bec so it wasnt applying proper power to everything, to the point where it would shut everything down completely. If i start having any more problems I'll definetly check the wires

Thanks for the info. I got it back and its working great. Everything was done for free because it hadn't even run for 5min. Both the hobby store and Losi concluded that it was the BEC. If i have problems with the new one i'll definetly check the wires out. Didnt think to do that with the old one but atleast it didnt cost me.

Glad to hear they took care of you, as mentioned I only speak from experience, one guy at the hobby shop was pushing hard to sell me on a new esc and motor and that was my only option, another guy came over while the pusher was quickly helping someone else and pulled apart my esc, resoldered it and kicked it back in a matter of 5 minutes..

I was Stoked! And no charge.. even better, granted I hooked him up with a 12 pack

Oops, sorry for the two posts

Its amazing the difference in opinion between different guys. One person will try and squeeze every last penny put of you and the next guy will help you save money. I bet he was stoked too when he got the 12 pack! Thanks again for the suggestion, if anything else goes wrong I'll be checking the esc first
