LED lighting question

I'm looking to add two simple LED's to my Capra. Can I just solder some white LED's to the appropriate resistors and plug them into a spare channel on my receiver and have the transmitter be able to turn the lights on and off, or would I need a light controller for that ability to turn them on and off?

Also, if I set my Mamba Micro X BEC voltage to 7.4v using Castle Link, the LED's should also receive 7.4v, correct (just to know what resistor to use)?

Thanks!

First.... No, you cannot control the LEDs directly through the RX, you need some sort of lighting controller. You can wire them up directly to the RX for power and have them on all of the time.

Second: You need to make sure the LEDs you are using are rated for the voltage you want to run. Recommend looking at Common Sense LEDs, they are rated to 12VDC and already have the load resistor installed.

Thanks for the quick replies! I was hoping "off" on a two position switch on the transmitter would just cut power to that channel of the rx but I guess it doesn't work that way.

Nope. The wire closest to the case is the return, the center wire is voltage, and the wire closest to the middle is the digital signal translated from the TX. A lighting controller, like that from HeyOK translates that digital signal as an on/off command.

HeyOK makes great stuff, it works great and the quality is top-notch. Recommend checking out his offerings in the vendor section. If you are unsure as to what you need shoot him a PM, he is very responsive and helpful.

Thanks! Do you have anything like a simple on/off switch like this:

?

I have a couple of those, I use them when I am protoing up something, or trying out an idea, and not going for a full-blown install. They are cheap for a reason, and I am not surprised when they fail.

^ ^ ^ This is where you want to go ^ ^ ^

Thanks for answering for me.
For some reason, the forum isn't sending me emails to tell me to check for replies etc.
Does this happen to anyone else or am I special?

Thanks for the heads up!

I will definitely check out the heyok one (and PM you @heyok if I have any questions) but after seeing what a nightmare it is to wire up the Capra and how little space it has, I think I'm going to pass on the LED lights for now.

No e-mails sent whatsoever, regardless of any setting you chose. Annoying!

Thank you for confirming that.
It's almost time to renew my vendor status. This might make me reconsider. That's a shame as I have been on here a long time.
