I decided to start a build thread at the start of a project vs the end. I've had the itch to make a 6x6 for awhile now. It's going to be two front axles/single rear, 6 wheel steered (front sync'd, rear will be mixed for either opposed or crab), axial tranny driving a t-case all topped with a globeliner body and covered bed with brakeline cage around the cage. I have my goals set high for this project so it my take awhile. Started collecting parts and mocking things up. Below are a few pics of the mockup so far. Straws are easy to work with!

Much more to follow.

Very cool. I'll be watching this one.

Here is the one I built up last year. The front steering took most of my build time but I finally worked it all out.

From the quotable Fishmaxx "That looks like a VCR on wheels." :ror:

Yours is one of the build threads I've been researching for ideas. That does lead me to a steering related question. Since I will have 3 servos (one for each axle) am I going to need a bec for each one? I'm use to comp crawlers where a bec is a must.

I bought the Castle BEC Pro and used that to run both of my front steering servos. I ran the HiTech 7950TH on each front axle.
I know my 6x6 was up around the 8-10lbs range, so yea, BECs were much needed.

Depending on which ESC you use. You might be able run the rear servo normal into the reciever. You could do that if you ran the HolmesHobbies BR-XL.

I was afraid of that! didn't think I'd will have spent enough on this project by the end.

These are horrible drawings but I wanted give an idea of what I'm planning. Gives an idea of the overall layout and the cage I want to wrap around the cab.

Looks like a good start, what chassis are you going to use?

I'm going to make one custom. It will be parallel aluminum c-channels with derlin cross members. It will have aluminum plates the come down for the link mounts.

Made some progress. Roughed up some rails, cut/milled a couple derlin crossmembers and servo mounting block (needs to be cut in thirds; one per servo, with he servos laying flat between the rails). Got the front axles mounted and everything is cycling smoothly. Also got the heavy duty bumpers cut out of a block of aluminum. Starting to take shape.

Much more to come but here are a few pics.

Thanks. I'm really looking forward to seeing where this takes me. I could see a trailer in the future. Maybe make the bed removable so I could change things up (flatbed, tow truck, etc). On thing holding me up is time and money!

Been making progress. Got the undercarriage for the front and rear done up. The deck is a single sheet of 1/8 derlin. The transfer case and tranny are laid out. The area above the shaft between the two will be enclosed (outside will have spares and tools mounted) and used to house the batteries, most likely a couple packs in parallel. Started making the sides of the bed, which will have a working tailgate. The bed will have brakeline cage with canvas top.

More to do but here are some pics. (Don't mind the blue tape. Use that to protect the derlin while cutting.)

A few more things done. Got the bed with tailgate finished up. Battery compartment is close, just need a lid. Mounted the front bumper and got the cab hooked up.

I'm liking the way it is coming out. A few pics of the progress.
