or

it will come up with a meassage saying- could not access network location %APPDATA%\

i am not very good on computers and i am needing some help! if you guys need more info or anything please let me know. thanks, Tim

maybe you're not downloading the right bit for your system? 32bit vs 64? have you tried plugging your phone in and seeing if it searches for updates?

go into the start menu right click on my computer and go to properties

you will see the screen above, and i have underlined where you need to look.

You should be running 32 bit, I don't think 64 is an option on your laptop. If you want to check, hitting "Start" (Windows logo) +"PauseBreak" on your keyboard will bring up the System Properties window, which should specify what version you are running.

The easiest solution is probably to just uninstall iTunes and Quick Time completely, reboot the computer, download the whole package, and install it all at once. This guide from Apple may help: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.

I don't think the uninstall will touch your music library, but it may be best to back up anything not on your ipod (if you have one, not the iPhone) to a CD before you uninstall itunes.

[edit] or the same thing foproy posted for checking the Windows version.

thanks! it is the 32bit system and i was trying to download the right one.
