yes. another LNC Motor question for the Losi Crew. Upgraded the Night Crawler motor and esc and am wanting a bit more power.

Here's the set up-
HPI Flux Motiv with 55T Axial Motor.
Pinion- 13T
Battery- 2S 2200 Lipo
CC BEC
SAVOX Coreless Digital Servo #SC-1256 (278 oz-in @ 6V)

Driving style- no comps, just fun weekender looking for a bit more power and possibly a bit more wheel speed. Something pretty low maintenance and durable would be great.

I've read that the HPI is basically a CC Sidewinder.

Lots of reading on here about Brushed vs Brushless and I'm confused. Some say, no brushless, others the opposite because of the worm gear... I'm intrigued with the possibility of going to a brushless motor as it just seems more efficient and durable, but am afraid of frying the motor or ESC.

Cost- under $50 would be awesome, but I'd be willing to go to under $100 so I can have something that lasts...

Castle Creations Motor?? Losi Brushless Motor?? Tekin or Holmes Hobbies Motor?? novak Ballistic 18.5 T crawler motor??

Maybe a 3S Lipo??

Any ideas or input would be greatly appreciated. For the love of sweet 8lb/10oz baby jesus.

PLEASE and thanks.

I have lnc 18.5 I love It brushless all the way "thumbsup"

pretty much any brushless motor you hook to that thing will cog like hell if its a re-packed sidewinder like you say it is. for crawling, you need a sensored motor and esc, only exception being outrunners, you can run them ok, but they're still not as smooth as a sensored motor. save your money to go towards a mamba max pro+sensored motor of your choosing or tekin rs system.

ok. yea- the MMP seems like the way to go... you're right- I'll stick with what I have right now, then make that move later...

thanks guys.

yeah, it'll run a brushed or brushless, but it will not do the sensor part, so any sensored motor you run would run as sensorless, in other words, save your money again.

and that motor is sensorless.

So, within my instructions- it specifies that I can use a Brushed or Brushless Motor. Possibly a CC CM36...

Is this the brushless you have Fish11??
1/10 Xcelorin 4800Kv Brushless Motor | Horizon Hobby

Worse case, I'll wait and go with the entire CC MMP later...

No I have the lnc with the 2s goat 18.5 I was saying go brushless more power wheel speed

Try a 21T Titan motor from Traxxas. I have seen this done in a LCC.

Cool. thanks. I'll wait for a bit I think.

Here's some food for thought... off the Castle Creations website- basically saying that sensorless is better than sensored... obviously, I know they are there to "sell" their product, but their reasoning of the normal person not needing sensored...

Castle Creations | Mamba Max Pro 1/10th Scale Power Systems

I'm not arguing with anyone, I'm sure experience with both brushed, brushless, sensored and sensorless is what a lot of the people on this forum have... I'd love to drive one of these setups side by side to know the difference...

Re: HPI Flux Motiv and what MOTOR UPGRADE?? Please dear 8lb 9 oz baby jesus help me!!

You do need a sensored motor if you go brushless. The Castle site is referring to there sensorless motors in the 4700+ KV range. I have had my sensor wire damaged on my system and it looks like the truck is having a seizure at slow speeds (crawling). I recommended the Titan motor in relation to the price range that you posted. It will be twice as fast and have good torque due to its 550 size.

good call. Thanks.

Hey Fish11. Any reason why u chose the Novak over the CC MM Pro? I have read a ton of threads on here about the differences- obviously the programming is a big factor, but just curious. I have a Rooster in my SCX10 and I love it. Simple and just works. That Goat seems like a good option with the Worm Gear specific profile.

Re: HPI Flux Motiv and what MOTOR UPGRADE?? Please dear 8lb 9 oz baby jesus help me!!

Yo Fish 11- Just got my Novak 18.5 Goat 3S Brushless installed... thanks for your reco. Man- I have to say that thing rocks!! Obviously, I gotta get out there and crawl with it, but my initial impressions:

1. Easy to install (although my soldering skills suck). Instructions were great and set up was cake.
2. Although I don't have a ton of experience I'd compare from my 55T brushed motor to the 18.5T brushless to this- Brushed motor gives a solid performance- nothing special, but the brushless is just snappier- quicker, more torque and just a crisp feel. I guess now I can really be a believer... brushless and sensored all the way.
3. Price for $160 I think I got a great deal and made a huge upgrade.

I've got the stock motor in my lnc/soon to be lcc, and I'm looking at motors, but can't figure out what to get and what pinion to run. I want some more wheel speed, but not a rock racer. I have a MMP to put in it already, as well.
