After playing around with my Everest 16 and Mad Torque 1/8 crawlers, I decided to pull the trigger on buying a higher end quality rig. I ultimately decided on the Honcho as I liked the body the most compared to the price. I really liked the Wrangler, but the hard plastic body wasn't worth the extra $ in my opinion.
I have about 3 battery packs through it, and so far I'm really loving this little thing. Of course, there are a few small things I want to do with it to improve performance / Durability.
I'm happy with the powerplant, compared to the Everest 16 and the MOA Mad torque 1/8, this thing is very fast. Slow compared to my Kraton, but plenty fast for a crawler. I may even gear it down a bit so I have more steady throttle control at lower speeds.
I'm using a old traxxas 4200 mah 2S lipo I had laying around that I rarely use and it is working perfect, I can't tell you how long the run time is because I haven't used a pack until the LVC cut me off. I did drive it last night in my garage for almost 45 minutes and when I put it on the charger afterwards it was still at 3.62 volts per cell.
I'm looking for advice on good quality, but budget items for the following. Not looking for Vanquish Titanium stuff here.
1. Shocks - the factory ones leak really bad. I'm going to pull them apart and rebuild/inspect them, but I may need to upgrade the shocks.
2. Links - the factory plastic links haven't given me any problems yet, but they are flimsy and weak. I've noticed a few times when I'm trying to hold a line on a rock face the steering link will bend pretty easily.
3. Steering Linkage / Servo Location - I'll need new linkage for sure, but wanted to see what everything thinks about servo mounting location. I was looking at the Level 3 Panhard chassis servo mount kit, any opinions/advice on that?
4. Lift Kit - I know several companies make aluminum pieces that add some adjust-ability to the ride height of the rig. I feel like I don't have much ground clearance or travel with the stock setup.
For the time being, that's about all I want to do. Everything else seems to be functioning just fine. The only thing I really think I need at this point is to get the shocks to stop leaking and replace the steering linkage.
Here is a picture of the new rig between me and my buddies Everest 16.
