Home brewed custom Power Wagon number 2

perfection

Thanks "thumbsup"

A local RC Crawler group had an event at Bradgate Park yesterday so I went along with my 5 year old son - Great fun!

We took the Race Tractor along with my D90 Trayback and custom chassis'd Unimog (the "Wookiee Wagon")

The Race Tractor did great! The only downer for the day is all the stories I'd read online about how poor the VP Sway Bars are proved to be true. The M4 bolts used to clamp the arms to the torsion bar continually came loose despite being red lock tighted in.

Never mind - I removed the sway bar totally half way through the event and as it happens, I preferred the trucks performance without it - I'll have a look to see if I can rig the sway bar up just for looks - as there's no denying it does look cool with the sway bar arms articulating.

All in all though - great performance from this truck. Nice low down weight gave super side hilling and ascending.

We even got adventurous and took the trucks for a "swim" ::2thumbs

Day was topped off by the Race Tractor scooping 1st place and the Wookiee Wagon unimog taking 2nd Place!

Hopefully the last bits I need to do the custom roof top light bar will arrive in the next day or two

had an awesome package from shapeways today!

RC Nerds very kindly drew up a design for me for the obscure 7 spot light bar! And shapeways delivered the goods today!

So I quickly made up some KC logo stickers and got to work

Silver soldered up a little cage for it out of 3mm stainless rod, drilled a few holes and hey presto!

made a slow motion video where you can just about see the overdriven front axle gears doing their thing

Video = Not long enough!

I find myself staring at this rig for a long time each time I see it... Between the tube-work, the body, the suspension articulation, and all the attention to performance and aesthetic details... this rig remains simply captivating to me. I think it's one of my favorite scale crawlers here on the RCC pages.

Wow! Thanks "thumbsup"

I’ll get round to making a longer video at some point

We’ve just had a new baby so time is a bit limited in between nappies and feeds lol:ror:

So on those KC light things in the 1:1 size trucks. I hear they are super big in the competitive scenes, but are those covers or something that come off? If not wouldnt you just have the weirdest KC shaped light that way?

Yeah on the 1:1 trucks the KC logo things are just covers protecting the lamps for daytime driving

On mine it’s just a fake 3D printed light bar

Sick build! What length trailing arms are you using for the rear and what is your wheelbase?

  • VP Transmission top shaft
  • Motor / ESC - undecided at the moment
  • RC Nerds 3D printed accessories / grille
  • Shocks - final choice not decided on but a mixture of Traxxas and Dravtech shocks so far for mockup

as for the overall wheel base - no idea, never measured it - all the other links I used I custom made myself to work so none of them are standard length "thumbsup"

Awesome build. How do you get the flat look on the paint

Hi - thanks - painting details on post number 11 on this thread "thumbsup"

but it's essentially painted on the outside with a variety of different matt paints, washes and pigment weathering powders.
